Project Supervisor, Construction

POSITION; PROJECT SUPERVISOR, CONSTRUCTION
Location; Dar es salaam, Tanzania
Reporting to; Project Manager, Land and Housing Delivery
Job Summary/Purpose
Responsible for the supervising Project Technicians (Construction) in the provision of housing technical services for individuals/ Cooperatives/ Groups who have signed up for WAT-HST housing microfinance programmers
MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
a) Manage and design of house upgrade plans and for new constructions
b) Assist the projects Manager on determining the level of phased implementation of housing schedules for the purpose of loans disbursements planning
c) Schedule the projects in logical steps and budget time required to meet deadline
d) Inspect and review projects to monitor compliance with building and safety codes, and other regulations
e) Interpret and explain plans and contract terms to technicians
f) Direct and supervise technicians
g) Propose requisition supplies and materials to complete construction projects
h) Assist with the identification and testing of appropriate, affordable and environmentally friendly technologies
i) Develop and implement quality control programs
j) Take actions to deal with the results of delays, bad weather, or emergencies at construction sites
k) Evaluate construction methods and determine cost effectiveness of plans, using computers.

Knowledge and skills
a) Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture, Quality Surveying, Construction management or Town Planning
b) At least 3 years working experience in site supervision of multiple housing projects
c) Excellent computer knowledge on basic applications
d) Ability to work effectively with others and good organizational skills
e) Excellent oral and written communication skills in Kiswahili and English
f) Ability to work independently, often managing multiple and simultaneous tasks at varying levels of complexity and detail
h) Knowledge of Tanzanian development and building and regulations and experience working with local Statutory Institutions to secure permits.
g) Professional registration and/or post graduate qualification in management will be an added advantage.
