OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME :
−To provide technical support to countries in planning, implementation, monitoring, evaluation of Adolescent and Youth Health and Development programmes;
−To support countries in formulating, implementing and evaluating adolescent and youth health policies, strategies and operational plans in line with the Adolescent health Regional strategy (Document AFR/RC51/10 Rev1),the 64th World Health Assembly resolution (WHA 64.28) on Youth and health risks, and the 65th World Health Assembly document (WHA 65.13) on Early marriages, adolescent and young pregnancies;
−To strengthen partnership with relevant WHO programmes and other partners especially in the area of immunization (HPV vaccination and adjunction of additional health interventions for adolescents), HIV/AIDS (male circumcision, condom promotion and use..), Making Pregnancy Safer (Prevention of adolescent pregnancy), Determinants and Risk factors (prevention of risk factors such as tobacco use and alcohol), Non Communicable Diseases (Injury prevention).
Description of duties:
1)Provide leadership in supporting countries to improve adolescent and youth health, namely adolescent sexual and reproductive health and assist countries to develop, implement and monitor their guidelines on Youth-Friendly Health Services for better access by young people to quality health services;
2)Facilitate effective partnerships and other United Nations Agencies and partners and resource mobilization, and ensure that the health of young people is given due attention at country, regional and global level;
3)Promote the involvement of adolescents and youth themselves, families, parents and community in the development of adolescent health interventions;
4)Support countries and partners in undertaking operational research in priority adolescent and youth health problems to provide evidence for the development of interventions and programmes;
5)Promote the use of indicators and methodologies to monitor and evaluate the health status of adolescents and youth in the WHO African region;
6)Carry out other assignments within his/her area of expertise as may be required by the supervisor
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
Essential: Degree in Medicine. Postgraduate degree in Public Health ( MPH) or Master of Science in Epidemiology.

Desirable: University degree in public policy or Programme Management or Training in Sexual and Reproductive Health or Training in Adolescent health and HIV/AIDS.
Skills: 
−Broad knowledge and skills in Adolescent and Youth Health and Development, including sexual and reproductive health of adolescents;
−Technical and programme management competencies in adolescent and youth health programming;
−Knowledge and Skills in training, research, monitoring and evaluation;
−Strong communication skills (written and oral);
−Ability to establish and maintain good working relationship at national and international levels.
Experience:
Essential: At least seven years experience in senior managerial position and/or in clinical practice, including at least 5 years experience in senior programme management in Adolescent and Youth Health at regional, national, district, or primary health care levels.

Desirable: Experience in planning, implementation, research, monitoring, evaluation related to Adolescent and Youth health programmes at regional, national and district level. Understanding of and experience working with global or regional partnerships and networks.
Languages:
Excellent knowledge of French or English and a working knowledge of the other. Working knowledge of Portuguese will be an advantage
Annual salary: (Net of tax)
US$ 67,483 at single rate
US$ 72,467 with primary dependants
Post Adjustment: 65.3 % of the above figure(s). This percentage is to be considered as indicative since variations may occur each month either upwards or downwards due to currency exchange rate fluctuations or inflation.
