FSC-GD Sub-Regional Coordinator in the Congo Basin

Forest Stewardship Council Global Development (FSC-GD) is establishing offices in 3 African regions: South Africa, East Africa and in Central/West Africa. The Regional Director in South Africa is the overall coordinator of the three offices.  

We are searching to fill the last vacant position in the new team; a Senior Forest Specialist who will establish the FSC-GD Sub-Regional Office in the Congo Basin and lead all activities of this office.

You will support the development of standard setting as well as secure the strategic development of FSC-GD policies in the region. Your focus is on the market and on the forest management with regard to legality, biodiversity and social issues. A part from being responsible for the administration of the sub-regional office you will support the FSC-GD standard development groups and FSC-GD Network Partners.

You have a strong background in the field of forestry. You know the market and the challenges the region experience and have a strong network to support you. You have a university degree in a relevant field and solid experience in social, environmental and economic issues related to forest. It is a strong asset if you have worked with/within FSC or FSC accredited Certification Bodies. You possess natural authority, great cultural sensitivity as well as a high level of commitment and energy. You are fluent in English and French languages.

The office is likely to be established in Cameroon or Gabon.
