Reporting to the CFO and Vice President of Operations, the Sr. Director of Finance will work
with fellow senior directors and vice presidents on a variety of financial tasks. The incumbent will provide strategic counsel to the institution on a variety of financial and business matters including identifying solutions of potential issues and identifying strategies to maximize opportunities. S/he will report to the CFO and VP of Operations on all financial activities of the organization. S/he will oversee and lead the key financial functions of ICRW: accounting, budgeting, and grants management. S/he will provide oversight for all contract and budget systems including accounting, project costing, payroll, and grants management systems. S/he will oversee and direct an accounting staff of two, and a budget and contracts department of two. The incumbent will work with the CFO and VP of Operations to direct the organization’s annual financial planning cycle and to ensure compliance with organizational guidelines and donor policies. S/he will regularly report to the executive team and board committees together with the CFO and VP of Operations.
Requirements and Skills:
Education: A master’s degree in business or related field is required.
Experience: Minimum ten (10) years’ work experience in finance in the nonprofit sector. Minimum (5) years supervisory experience. At least five (5) years experience in federal grants management. Experience with USAID rules and regulations is highly desirable. Experience with contract/grant management including drafting and negotiations. Experience with financial systems integration. Experience with proposal budget development and in the development and management of tiered indirect cost rate structures.
Skills: Accomplished user in standard business applications (MS Office Suite). Knowledge of accounting software (e.g. Solomon v7 or higher) is preferred. Demonstrated project management and budget skills. Must possess strong organizational skills, thoroughness and attention to detail.
Primary Responsibilities:
• Develops, implements and enforces policies and procedures to ensure the accuracy of record keeping, effectiveness of internal controls and adequate safeguarding of the organization’s assets.
• Prepares the organization’s annual budget for Board approval and any budget updates as requested by the Board.
• Reviews and approves all contractual agreements including award letters.
• Prepares and negotiates the annual indirect cost rate submissions.
• Produces periodic financial performance reports for senior management, the board of directors, and donors.
• Directs both accounting and budget/contracts staff.
• Leads the annual audit.
• Closely monitors the financial operations of ICRW overseas offices.
• Reviews and approves all cash disbursements prior to check signing.
• Responsible for the management and update of the organization financial systems.
• Directs and reviews the preparation of all proposal budgets to donors.
• Works closely with executive level staff as well as project and budget managers on project life cycle budget.
• Mentors and provides leadership to the Finance team.
The successful incumbent will be a solutions-oriented individual who can understand the needs of the entire institution as s/he carries out his/her responsibilities. S/he must demonstrate superior interpersonal, leadership and diplomatic skills
