The Wellcome Trust Sanger Institute is a world leader in genomic research, with an expanding scientific programme dedicated to understanding gene function in health & disease.
The Media, PR and Communications team are looking for a strong communicator with experience in the scientific arena to join the team. This exciting role will be working alongside the Manager and Adviser to develop print, audio and video public relations and media materials and opportunities for the Sanger Institute in order to enhance the Institute's reputation. The main media duties will be to research and develop media releases and features on the Institute's science and its staff, using print, online and video methods. A key aspect of this role will be work on further developing the website and helping to host visits.
Essential Skills
You must have previous experience of writing clear, accurate, scientific communications and a demonstrable ability to develop media releases. You will display well-developed negotiation skills and the ability to deliver projects with a flexible approach whilst thriving under diverse workloads, working on projects with competing priorities. A willingness to take on new tasks and to learn new skills is a key part of the role. You will be able to demonstrate an attention to detail.
Ideal Skills
Ideally, you will be educated to degree level in Science or Science Communication or be able to demonstrate equivalent experience. You will also have proven ability to use a range of media, including new media (video, audio). You will have experience in project management.
