OVERALL PURPOSE OF THE JOB The Communications Manager is responsible for designing, implementing and updating FAR’s communications strategy, with a focus on keeping internal and external actors abreast of all new developments in the organization’s programming. The Communications Manager will also be responsible for providing support to the INGO forum.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES • Design, implement and keep up-to-date FAR’s communications strategy; • Maintain the website with up-to-date project reports, news items, and any other elements as per the communications strategy; • Liaise with local and international media as required to promote FAR’s programmes, partners, and principles; • Train staff and partners in communications, media relations, writing, reporting etc; • Support the INGO Forum for (Northern) Sudan with regular policy papers, position papers,briefing packs and talking points for frequent visiting delegations; • Conduct relevant research for the INGO Forum for (Northern) Sudan to inform policy; • Represent the INGO Forum for (Northern) Sudan to external actors, particularly donors and the UN; • Represent FAR to external actors, particularly donors and partners (including churches); • Model and uphold humanitarian principles and adherence to FAR’s mission, vision, values, policies and procedures.
PERSON SPECIFICATION • Understands and actively supports FAR’s mission, vision and values • Is able and willing to work with local churches, including having a leading role in devotional activities • Promotes an organisational culture of trust, transparency, respect and partnership • Is able to convey information orally and in writing in clear and concise English • Has demonstrated capacity to collect, compile and present information clearly • Processes and shares information easily and is able to solve problems • Displays excellent presentation skills • Has demonstrated ability to conduct training in a cross-cultural context • Understands and promotes a Do No Harm approach in theory and practice • Holds a university degree in a related field • Has NGO-based experience of relief and development programming • Manages time efficiently but is ready to work long hours when necessary • Is able (physically and emotionally) to live, work and travel in difficult environments, is sensitive to cross-cultural contexts, and is comfortable with team living where required • Has good Arabic language skills (desirable but not required)
BENEFITS: Starting salary is $1500 CAD/month with an annual flight home, a generous R&R package, health insurance, housing and an in-country food and living allowance.
