Research Fellow - optical gas detection for healthcare Cranfield University

Cranfield University - School of Engineering, Department of Engineering Photonics

(minimum 30 month fixed term)
£29,498 to £31,142 per annum

You will join our vibrant research department developing a wide variety of novel optical instrumentation applied to industrial measurement applications. Other responsibilities include day to day supervision of PhD students. There will be opportunities for travel to represent the Department at major international meetings and to liaise with our industrial collaborators.

You will possess a good first degree and a PhD in Physics, Optoelectronics, Instrumentation development or Engineering and be able to demonstrate excellent communication skills.

You will develop optical instrumentation for volatile biomarkers, to aid disease diagnosis in healthcare settings, using tunable diode laser spectroscopy (TDLS). Our main project is a collaboration between two university schools (School of Engineering and Cranfield Health), a gas detection manufacturer (Cascade Technologies Ltd) and Bedford Hospital, with funding from the UK's Technology Strategy Board (TSB). There will also be the opportunity to develop your own ideas in this field through feasibility studies leading to further grant applications.
