We are currently recruiting for a Chief of Party for an anticipated USAID-funded HIV/AIDS prevention education project in Kenya. The Healthy Outcomes through Prevention Education (HOPE) project is a four year project which aims to improve the knowledge, attitudes and practices of students in 400 primary and secondary schools in Nairobi district through a combination of peer, school, and community-based interventions supported by strengthening of the MoE’s revised Sector Policy on HIV/AIDS.
Responsibilities
• Lead the project’s strategic, financial, and operational planning, including the annual work planning process and development of an appropriate exit strategy.
• Oversee the timely submission of all deliverables to USAID.
• Supervise the Monitoring and Evaluation Advisor, and oversee the hiring process of all local personnel.
• Provide overall coordination of the institutional/organizational capacity building of the local NGOs and other key stakeholders.
• Fully inform Save’s home/field office on all matters relating to the project, and maintain appropriate links with partner home/field offices.
• Ensure that efficient systems to support all aspects of the project (including sub-grant management, financial, capacity building and performance monitoring and reporting) are in place and support the effective use of project resources in compliance with USAID regulations and Save the Children policies.
• Represent the project with USAID, the Government of Kenya, donors, and partners.
• Undertake any other tasks as assigned by the Country Director.
Requirements
• Masters degree in project management, health, education or related field
• A minimum of seven years experience specific to HIV/AIDS prevention education in a developing country context, preferably sub-Saharan Africa especially in Kenya
• Prior experience as a Chief of Party, Deputy Chief of Party, or position with significant responsibility for oversight of human and financial resources, preferably for a similar sized donor –funded project
• Demonstrated skills in strategic planning, management, and budgeting
• Experience implementing school improvement programs in partnership with government, communities and NGOs
• Demonstrated skills in leadership and supervision, with an ability to develop a common vision among partners and lead multi-disciplinary teams
• Familiarity with USAID regulations and policies
• Extensive experience in Africa, with experience in Kenya preferred
• Proven ability in promoting and collaborating closely with multi-level stakeholders
• Excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to lead and work effectively in team situations
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
• Fluency in English
