Legal Officer
THIS POSITION IS GOING TO BE BASED IN ARUSHA, TANZANIA
OVERVIEW
We are looking for an experienced law praticionner with a strong understanding of the African Human Rights System and a good command of the Arabic language to hold the position of Legal Officer in the African Court on Human and People's Rights.
NATURE OF THE JOB
The job holder will assist in legal research and analysis on legislation and jurisprudence in national and international courts. He/she will carry out in-depth research on international human rights law and monitor relevant developments in international law. He/she will also draft legal opinions and memos on various legal issues and prepare reports and fact sheets on the status of cases pending before the Court.

The Court is the first continental judicial body charged with ensuring the protection of human and peoples’ rights in Africa and its objective is to enhance the protective mandate of the African Commission on Human and Peoples’ Rights by strengthening the human rights protection system in Africa and ensuring respect for and compliance with the African Charter on Human and Peoples’ Rights, as well as other international human rights instruments, through judicial decisions.
REQUIREMENT
The ideal candidate must have a minimum of a University degree in Law. An advanced university degree or a relevant postgraduate diploma in Law will be an added advantage. He/she must have a minimum of six (6) years relevant professional experience in an international organization.
