The Institute for Fiscal Studies is looking to recruit a number of outstanding Economists to join our research teams.
IFS is Europe’s leading centre of microeconomic policy research, established as an authoritative commentator on the public finances, tax and welfare policy, tax law, education, inequality and poverty, pensions, productivity and innovation, consumer behaviour and more recently on the evaluation of policies designed to promote development in poorer countries. It is a politically independent registered charity aiming to bridge the gap between policymakers and academics.
Research teams include full-time researchers and academic Research Associates, who are leading academics in their fields. Right from the start, new researchers can expect to be involved in all aspects of research projects - from empirical analysis to writing final reports and giving presentations. IFS has a strong record in training excellent social scientists, some of whom build a long career at IFS while others go on to use the skills they acquired at IFS to good effect in the civil service, the media and academia.
IFS researchers are not only excellent economists, but are able to think creatively about economics and eventually shape their innovative ideas into research programmes. They are keen to use empirical economic analysis to inform policymaking and to pass on their enthusiasm for economics to others, both inside and outside the Institute.
We welcome applications from:
- those expecting to graduate in 2016 with an extremely good degree in economics;
- graduates with an extremely good degree in economics who are expecting to complete an MSc in 2016; or
- exceptional economists with some experience in research, in academia, public or private sectors.
If you join us straight from your first degree, you will be encouraged to study part-time for a Masters degree with financial support from the Institute. If you are interested in further study, support is also given towards part-time study for a PhD.
Candidates who are studying for or have completed a PhD are also welcome to apply and will be considered for a Research Economist role. If you consider it relevant, please include information about your doctoral research in the application form; you may include a link to a website where your papers are available.
Should you be interested in working with us, but do not feel that a Research Economist role is quite right for you, please contact us separately by clicking on the apply button, attaching a CV and two-page covering letter giving details of your PhD and research interests and how you feel these fit with IFS research.
Successful candidates are expected to start work in autumn 2016.
