EnPe – NORAD´s SCHOLARSHIPS FOR PhD STUDIES IN ENERGY AND PETROLEUM SECTOR AT THE NORWEGIAN UNIVERSITY OF SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY (NTNU)
ANTHEI (Angolan Norwegian Tanzanian Higher Education Initiative) Project 2016 – 2019
Background
Since 2011 the University of Dar es Salaam (UDSM) the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) of Norway and the University of Agostinho Netto (UAN) in Angola have been collaborating under the ANTHEI project to train professionals in petroleum engineering and petroleum geosciences at masters level. Already three batches of a total of 28 Tanzanian students have been enrolled in phase one of the programme.
In phase two of the programme, 9 students were enrolled for Masters and a batch of 3 students will be granted scholarships next year (2016) to undertake a three year full-time PhD study in Petroleum Engineering and Petroleum Geosciences at NTNU. The scholarship covers subsistence allowance (stipend), travel to and fro, tuition, insurance and stationeries.
PhD in Petroleum Engineering and Applied Geophysics
The PhD programmes are taught in English. The programmes focus on the following areas:
- Exploration and production of oil and gas
- Methods of increasing oil recovery
- Development of subsea production solutions for greater water depths
- Seismic surveillance of reservoirs
A candidate can specialize in: drilling technology, petroleum production, reservoir technology, petroleum geology or petroleum geophysics.

Eligibility
- Applicant should have a background in the mentioned areas of specialisation at MSc level;
- Applicant must have obtained a GPA of 3.8 or above at undergraduate level or its equivalent and a GPA of 4.0 or above for Masters degree by coursework or PASS for Masters degree by thesis or their equivalent,;
- The Masters degrees must have been obtained within the past 5 years;
- Qualified females will be given priority.
