CHIEF MINE ENGINEER – PLANNING

We seek to appoint a Chief Mine Engineer – Planning at our North Mara Gold Mining operation in Tanzania. The role will report to the Operations Manager and will be accountable for complete Life of Mine plans for short and long term asset exploitation. The work roster is 6 weeks on and 3 weeks off. 

KEY RESULT AREAS / ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS 

• Responsible for strategic, long and short term Mine Planning, Mine Design and Mine Production scheduling. 
• The position is a leadership role and is thus accountable for ensuring that the Senior Mining Engineers are supported to ensure quality delivery of plans and schedules in a timely manner that are in line with the monthly plan and budget. 
• Provide technical support to ensure Mine Production and cost budgets are timely, reliable and realistic. 
• Ensure open pit optimization and designs are completed to the Barrick standards and requirements. 
• Ensure the preparation of annual Budget and Life of Mine (LOM) plan and ensure that all corporate requirements are adhered to. 
• Provide inputs to support functions to operations (drill design, drilling QA/QC feedback, Mine2Mill). 
• Develop KPI’s to proactively monitor mining performance. 
• Work in co-operation with the Geology Department for reporting of mid and end of year Ore Reserves. 
• Ensure compliance with environmental management practices that minimize the impact of the operation on the environment. 
• Ensure compliance with all contractual, statutory and regulatory requirements. 
• Ensure that all necessary governmental permits required for mining operations are acquired. 
• Ensure zero tolerance reporting within the Mine planning Department. 
• Manage the Department’s human resources by setting clear performance objectives and by providing regular feedback. 
• Manage the succession planning process to ensure that North Mara’s commitments to the Tanzanian government with respect to the development of Tanzanian employees are achieved. 

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: 

• University Degree in Mining Engineering 
• A Minimum of 10 years relevant experience in the mining industry, specifically mine planning in large open pit operations utilizing excavators and large trucks. 

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS 

• Demonstrate initiative by being able to take full responsibility of safety, production and quality of mine planning. 
• Ability and experience in training, coaching and mentoring subordinate personnel. 
• Suitable experience in short and long term mine planning. 
• Fully conversant with Xeras and Whittle Mine Planning Packages and Xpac. 
• Experience in the use of Gemcom / Surpac and other mining software packages, practical knowledge in the use of spreadsheets and database software packages. 
• Competent person for the purpose of Ore Reserves reporting as per the JORC code.
