Immunization is among the most successful, most equitable and most cost-effective public health interventions reaching four out of five children globally. We work with governments, partners and communities to increase demand for immunization establish better cold chain and logistic systems; design approaches to “Reach the Unreached”; and increase national ownership for immunization. Immunization is a central part of our commitment to protecting the world’s most vulnerable children, and we are looking for experienced Cold Chain and Logistics professionals to join our team.
Key Responsibilities Under the guidance of the supervisor, key responsibilities include: 1. Provide technical support to countries for their Effective Vaccine Management (EVM) Assessments in preparations for new vaccine introduction. 2. Support to countries where EVM assessments were conducted to develop strategic cold chain and logistics Improvement Plans (IPs) as well as the implementation and monitoring of the IPs. 3. Support countries to conduct cold chain inventories and develop cold chain upgrade and replacement plans as well as support and monitor the implementation of the plans with regular update to the Regional Office & Headquarters. 4. Assist countries with CCL equipment selection, with the re-design of their CCL systems. 5. Support and track the implementation of new vaccine introduction plan focusing on activities related to cold chain and vaccine management in priority countries. 6. Support countries to use appropriate tools for regularly monitoring vaccine stocks and temperatures at all levels. 7. Request for and analyse stock management tools (SMT) and other vaccine management tools from countries on monthly basis and provide technical support to prevent vaccine and supplies stock-out and wastage. 8. Support country teams to build technical capacity for national and sub-national CCL Officers in vaccine and cold chain management.
Qualifications 1. Advanced university degree in refrigeration engineering or other related technical field required. Studies in business administration will be an asset. A first level university degree with a relevant combination of academic qualifications and experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree. 2. Minimum of 8 years of relevant work experience with extensive hands-on equivalent field experience in logistics, refrigeration, and/or management. Sales/marketing experience in private sector, or experience in institutional procurement of cold chain and waste management products. 3. Fluency in English is required. Knowledge of French or Portuguese will be an added advantage.
*Post is based in Nairobi, with frequent mission travel to the countries of the region.
