Pilot introduction and Evaluation of Sayana Press is a four-year project funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. Sayana Press (SP) is an innovative subcutaneous contraceptive. The project will facilitate and evaluate the pilot introduction of Sayana Press in four African countries - Senegal, Burkina Faso, Niger and Uganda. The project aims to make Sayana Press available through regular delivery channels and evaluate the impact of the product on family planning programs in order to build the evidence base for global decision-making about whether and how to include Sayana Press in family planning programs in the future.

PATH is seeking a Project Coordinator for the Sayana Press pilot introduction and evaluation project for Uganda. The Project Coordinator is responsible for three primary tasks:

  •  Contribute to the preparation of the product introduction plan 
  •  Coordinate implementation of the pilot introduction
  •   Assure consistent coordination between the pilot introduction and the evaluation activities.

 S/he will be part of the PATH Uganda Country Program team, and will also work closely with project staff based in Seattle, USA, to support planning, implementation, and monitoring of project activities, timelines and deliverables.

  Specific responsibilities and duties include: 

  • Provide regular support to a Ugandan Project Management Team (PMT) representing the Ministry of Health (MOH), donor and NGO partners who will be implementing different project components. Lead the PMT to develop a work plan that integrates their respective scopes of work and roles in the Sayana Press project; develop and maintain a system to track the specific activities and deliverables of each partner, and assure that relevant linkages are made across partners. Anticipate, identify, and trouble-shoot implementation bottlenecks and challenges as they arise; work with PATH Uganda leadership and relevant partners to resolve these challenges to assure smooth project implementation.

  • Under the guidance of the project’s Medical Advisor and the PATH Uganda Country Program Leader, coordinate regular updates and collaboration with the Ugandan Ministry of Health, USAID Uganda, DFID Uganda, and UNFPA Uganda.  Undertake this work with the goal of ensuring that project is implemented in a way that is consistent with Uganda’s national family planning objectives.

  •  Work with the PATH Seattle team to contribute key inputs to the first draft of the product introduction plan, and to subsequent updates and refinements as the project is implemented.

  •  Collect information needed for preparation of the introduction plan, including but not limited to information on distribution channels, service delivery infrastructure, provider training needs, communication needs, policy issues, and partner capacities.

  • Assist the PATH Seattle team to facilitate preparation of scopes of work and budgets with designated implementing partners in Uganda; assist with preparation of integrated project implementation plan.

  •  Support smooth, effective, and timely implementation of the pilot introduction of Sayana Press in Uganda.

  •  Develop and maintain a system for regular interactions with identified implementing partners in Uganda to assure smooth, efficient, and timely implementation of the pilot introduction.

  •  With designated partners, develop a detailed Sayana Press training plan and ensure smooth implementation of training program; collect and compile training reports.

  • With designated partners, coordinate the development and production of communication messages and materials concerning Sayana Press.

  • Collaborate closely with the Research Officer to ensure effective implementation of the project’s evaluation component.

• Demonstrated skills in project planning, project management, and partner coordination with a geographically dispersed team.

• Experience nurturing effective and positive relationships with national governmental stakeholders and donor representatives.

• Demonstrated analytical skills and problem solving skills.

• Demonstrated skill in systems development (e.g. communication systems, tracking and monitoring systems, data gathering systems etc.).

• Organizational/facilitation skills (e.g. prepare agendas, facilitate meetings, and otherwise support effective communication with teams and partners.

• Demonstrated representational experience in professional and global forum.

• Excellent verbal and written communications skills; fluency in written and spoken English.

Required Experience
Masters in public health, population information and research, or a related field and a minimum of 10 years of demonstrated experience in implementing public health programs with family planning or reproductive health components involving public, social marketing, and NGO sectors in Uganda, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Experience overseeing training materials development and implementation of training programs, behavior change communication, and oversight of qualitative field research activities highly desirable.
