Job summary
The Temporary Project Assistant will work under the supervision of the Human Rights Adviser to provide project support to a specific compact of technical assistance dedicated to certain member states. The role will involve research; communications with internal and external interlocutors; project management activities; and the drafting of project documentation.
The post-holder:
- Provides administrative and logistical support for all Human Rights meetings and workshops/ events which includes
Provides logistical, administrative and technical support for the delivery of Human Rights capacity development projects - Is responsible for providing editorial and administrative support for research publications relating to Human Rights Unit.
- Is required to coordinate closely with the Human Rights Adviser and the Head of Human Rights in the delivery of service and completion of assigned responsibilities.
- Liaise with Divisions in the Secretariat on issues relevant to the Unit.
- Any other tasks delegated by the Human Rights Adviser/Head of Human Rights.
Qualifications and Work Experience
- Recognised graduate level qualification, preferably a Master’s degree in a relevant field (such as human rights, law, or development studies).
- At least two years’ experience, at national and/or international levels, in implementing and promoting best practice in human rights
- Experience in planning and organising human rights capacity development initiatives
- Proven research experience
- Experience in project planning, development and delivery
- Fluent in spoken and written English
- The ability to work effectively in a multi-cultural work environment and in a small team with resource limitations.
Desirable:
- Experience in human rights research
- A good understanding of human rights in the Commonwealth
- A good knowledge of the Commonwealth and the challenges it faces.
About the Human Rights Unit
The Human Rights Unit has as overall objective: the strengthening of rights protection and promotion in the Commonwealth. It does so in accordance with Commonwealth Declarations, international human rights law and international human rights standards. It thus works to build the capacities of member states to better promote and protect human rights. It does this by sharing best practices with government officials, national human rights institutions, parliamentarians, civil society actors and human rights defenders.
