Midwifery Trainer for the Kamuzu College of Nursing in Lilongwe/Malawi

Description of Project:
Kamuzu College of Nursing in Lilongwe is the leading nursing school in Malawi and also plays a role in curriculum development, but lacks highly qualified lecturers and tutors. The development advisor supports the college to improve the quality of midwifery training and to include modern methods of midwifery in training and curriculum development. The advisor achieves these objectives together with the counterpart through sustainable organisational development, capacity building of staff and coaching of student mentors (preceptors) during practical training.
Your Responsibilities:
• You give advice to the development, implementation and assurance of quality standards of midwifery training.
• You support the organisation, supervision and coaching of practical teaching in midwifery.
• You introduce modern midwifery methods in teaching and curriculum development.
• You build the didactic capacities of lecturers and student mentors (preceptors).
Your Profile
• Experienced midwife
• Teaching and skills transfer capacities
• Fluent in English
• Previous working experience in Africa
• Academic degree in nursing/midwifery education
Duration of the assignment: 2 Years
Location Information:
Plaxe: Lilongwe
Klima: tropical highland climate with a rainy season from November to April, temperature min 5/max 35 °C
Health: basic health services available, medical emergencies airlifted to South Africa
Shopping: nearly European standard, but imported goods more expensive
Accessibility: all-weather road network, international airport 25km, good cellphone and internet coverage
School situation: international primary and secondary (IB) schools present
Further Information: relatively safe, petty crimes/break-ins do occur
Surrounding conditions: Willingness to learn basic Chichewa
