ECI emphasizes the importance of field-based and scholarly research to support evidence-based programming and advocacy initiatives. ECI seeks to continually collect data, catalogue best practices, and generate recommendations to better inform and evaluate programming and policy driven by those who know the issues best – the communities affected.
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Major Gift Officer will be responsible for the identification, engagement, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of current and prospective major donors to ECI. He/she will be responsible for meeting an annual revenue target by working with an assigned portfolio of donors and prospects to advance the mission of the organization.
Position Responsibilities:
- Responsible for annual major donors fundraising goal ($500,000 for the current fiscal year) as specified in performance standards, including both renewable gifts and new incremental revenue;
- Build, maintain, and manage an ongoing portfolio of current and prospective donors nationwide. (Major donors are defined as individual donors who gift $10,000 or more per year);
- Manage current donor and prospect cultivation and solicitation plans through the use of E-Tapestry donor software, and directly supervise ECI interns responsible for software management;
- Develop solicitation, stewardship and cultivation strategies including identifying next steps; stewardship and cultivation opportunities; etc. for Board of Directors, CEO/Executive Director, ECI staff and other consultants to secure major donors and contributions;
- Develop comprehensive plan to include upgrading current donors to meet budgeted goals.;
- Provide monthly reports to CEO/Executive Director and quarterly reports to board of directors, related to major donor fundraising including, but not limited to, active major donor reports; prospect reports, progress toward budgeted goals by community, etc.;
- Assist with fundraising events logistics and support, and other cultivation opportunities;
- Travel extensively within a portfolio of cities for major donor visits and major donor solicitation;
- Work strategically and creatively to broaden and expand the base of prospective major donors giving to ECI.
Position Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree required;
- 6+ years of experience in fundraising required with proven experience in securing major gifts;
- Candidates must be extremely well organized, detail-oriented and have experience managing executive-level colleagues to fulfill organization deliverables and objectives;
- Candidates must be able to prioritize multiple assignments and handle complex tasks in a fast-paced environment;
- Candidates must have excellent writing and strong communications skills;
- Candidates should have a proven track record of successfully working remotely with a team of colleagues and partners in multiple locations;
- Candidates should have strong stakeholder engagement and relationship management skills;
- Candidates should have public speaking experience or skills, and be able to represent ECI in a variety of settings.
Desirable personal qualities include strong initiative, hard-working, self-starting approach and a balanced mix of self-confidence and humility. Must be able to work and thrive while under pressure or in stressful circumstances with a positive approach and can-do attitude. Proven ability to be solution-focused and approach challenges or conflicts by thinking outside the box. Applicants should be good natured and charismatic with a good sense of humor.
POSITION LOCATION:
This position may be based in Washington DC, Los Angeles, or Seattle, WA. (Additional locations may be considered)
Must be able and willing to travel domestically up to 40% of the time.
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
This position may be a part or full-time position, depending on the quality and experience of the candidate. Compensation is based on experience and benchmarked against non-profit levels.
