ACCORD’s primary aim is to influence political developments by bringing conflict resolution, dialogue and institutional development to the forefront as an alternative to armed violence and protracted conflict. ACCORD specialises in conflict management, analysis and prevention and intervenes in conflicts through mediation, negotiation, training, support to peacekeeping operations, research and conflict analysis.

Coordinator, Peacekeeping Unit (PKU) Reference: PKU-COR-ACCORD
Key Responsibilities: Reporting to the Interventions Department Manager, the Coordinator will lead the strategic and substantive coordination of all initiatives in the PKU. Reporting to the Manager of the Interventions Department, the Coordinator: PKU collaborates with other ACCORD programme staff, including the Peacemaking, Peacebuilding, Training Units, the Burundi as well as Country Programmes (South Sudan Initiative, Somalia Initiative, Burundi Initiative and Great Lakes Project). The Coordinator:PKU will operate from Durban,with significant travel to other countries in the process of implementing project activities as well as engaging with partners and stakeholders.
Duties The specific tasks include, but are not limited to:
• Coordinating the operational design and planning for the PPKU programmes, which currently include the Training for Peace (TfP) programme;
• Coordinating the outputs and supporting the implementation of the Project Plan and budget;
• Overseeing the administrative aspects of the role towards and implementing the strategic objectives of the Peacekeeping Unit;
• Developing concept notes and proposals towards fundraising for Peacekeeping interventions
• Preparing, implementing and monitoring annual budgets for the Unit; ensuring Peacekeeping Unit’s activities remain relevant, effective and in sync with the organisational goals
• Liaising, networking and engaging with key stakeholders;
• Providing support and co-organising project related activities with partners, including participating in partner meetings, trainings and relating capacity building initiatives;
• Overseeing the development, dissemination and implementation of curricula, training and research materials generated by the PKU; ; and
• Support learning and knowledge generation within the Unit and organisation in general.

Requirements: The successful candidate must be in possession of an advanced graduate degree (Masters) in International Relations with Peace and Security Specialisation or Conflict Resolution. S/he will have between 5-7 years operation and programme management experience the peace and security field with at least 2-3 years management /coordination experience. S/he will possess substantive knowledge in peacekeeping in Africa that integrates policy, practice and research. S/he must have experience in maintaining efficient and effective administrative and financial systems. Strong written and oral communication skills are required.
