PURPOSE OF THE JOB: The Training Manager will be based in Melut and oversee all training elements of an EC-funded livelihoods project in Melut, Upper Nile, South Sudan. This involves a considerable amount of capacity-building activities for the local government and FAR's local partner, the development agency of the Episcopal Church of Sudan, as well as work with micro-credit and agricultural groups. On occassion, the Training Manager will be called on to lead and assist with other training events within the organization.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES: • To manage the capacity-building component of the EC project, as well as to oversee the micro-finance elements of the project • To act as a mentor to the ECS (FAR’s local partner in Upper Nile) on a regular basis, assisting with report writing, financial accountability, project planning, etc.• To ensure timely implementation of all capacity-building and training activities as set out in the logframe, as well as to supervise the micro-credit component of the program • To work through, in close cooperation with the ECS and relevant government ministries, capacity-building plans of action that have been developed for the Departments of Agriculture and Livestock, the SSRRC, and the ECS/REDRA, and work closely to develop and carry out training plans related to these • To facilitate workshops on project management, proposal writing, general management, report keeping, etc. for stakeholders • To mentor the ECS/REDRA during proposal writing, project planning and project implementation • To provide support to other FAR offices for training purposes as needed, offering input into new projects and assisting, where needed, in their implementation • To be an integral member of the Upper Nile Management team, assisting where necessary in any other duties required by the project and the Program Coordinator
PERSON SPECIFICATION: Understanding and agreement with FAR’s mission, vision and values; University degree in Development, Project Management, Capacity Building, Adult Education, or other relevant field; Experience writing, training, and giving presentations; Strong training skills and understanding of adult education techniques; Experience incorporating confliction-sensitive approaches into capacity-building programming; Fluent communication skills in English; Ability to function in Arabic is an asset; Ability to work effectively in a cross-cultural and sometimes insecure setting; Willingness to work with local churches (which sometimes includes having to take a leading role in devotional activities); Willingness to live and work in difficult situations with limited amenities (we use local transportation, have mainly squat latrines, have limited electricity in our field sites, live in teams, etc.).
The starting salary for this position is $1500 CAD/month, plus a yearly flight home, generous R&R package, accommodation in a FAR guesthouse, in-country food and living stipend, and health insurance.
