The Research Department at the Transparency International-Secretariat develops and implements cutting-edge research tools on corruption, accountability and transparency as well as supports the wider TI movement in its evidence-based advocacy work. The Senior Research Coordinator, Public Accountability & Transparency will be coordinating TI’s work on evidence-based approaches and research at country level, with a focus on local level and citizen-centered approaches. Tasks would range from designing research tools, providing technical assistance and quality control on their implementation by TI’s National Chapters, to engaging the TI movement as well as the wider anti-corruption community on these transparency and accountability research tools and their policy implications.
Key responsibilities and Accountabilities:
- Provide technical assistance in design and implementation of (anti-)corruption research tools by TI National Chapters with a focus on local level and citizen-centered approaches;
- Develop innovative research and evidence-based advocacy approaches as well as improve and scale-up existing tools in various subfields of (anti-)corruption;
- Review and provide quality assurance of research outputs developed by TI National Chapters;
- Lead the data analysis of cases from TI’s Advocacy & Legal Advice Centres (ALAC) Programme;
- Input into design of TI programmes from a research perspective;
- Engage with TI movement, particularly the National Chapters, on transparency and accountability research tools, evidence and policy implications;
- Develop and enhance contacts with relevant institutions and specialists in the field of public accountability and transparency;
- Fundraise to ensure sustainable funding of current and new projects.
Knowledge, Experience and Skills:
- Masters degree or higher in relevant field (e.g. Development Studies, Economics, Political Science, Sociology);
- Minimum 5 years work experience in the field of applied social research, at least 3 years with a particular focus on local level (anti-)corruption and social accountability issues;
- Proven skills in implementing research tools on governance and corruption, ideally with substantive field experience in a developing country context;
- Significant experience in advising researchers/partners on research design and implementation issues;
- In-depth knowledge of empirical governance and corruption research studies;
- Strong writing and editing skill s;
- Solid expertise in quantitative data analysis;
- Experience in working across cultures;
- Experience in research training and capacity-building an advantage;
- Fluency in English (written, spoken) with additional language(s) (preferably French or Spanish) an advantage.
