MTN Uganda is the leading telecommunications company in Uganda, providing payphones, fixed lines, fax/ data, Internet and mobile services. The comp my is currently expanding and is seeking to recruit a suitable, qualified person for the following position.
Risk Analyst (1 position)
The position reports to the Risk Manager.
The main purpose of the job is to assist the Risk Manager in the execution of his/her duties, with respect to the day-to-day monitoring of operational risk issues and business continuity plan development, as well as maintenance.
The prime responsibilities of this position are:
To support the Risk Manager by providing risk management oversight, developing and implementing operational risk tools, and supporting the implementation and compliance with MTN Group risk management frameworks for Enterprise Risk Management, Insurance Risk Management, Project Risk Management and Business Continuity Management. More specifically:
• Operational Risk Management:
• Champion the implementation of, and compliance with, the Occupational, Health, Safety and Environment (OSHE) policy, procedures and practices.
• Perform in-depth risk analyses for all emerging operational risks as and when they arise. Actively investigate operational risks in order to understand new developing risks better.
• Support the development and use of key risk indicators to the lowest level of the organisation.
• Support the review of top Operational Risks.
• Participate in annual risk re-assessments.
• Entrench an operational risk management culture within MTN through awareness workshops, articles and presentations. (At least 1 workshop per stakeholder group per annum.)
• Co-ordinate operational risk champions, organising their training in the GBRM ERM methodology and risk management software.
• Insurance Risk Management:
• Carry out Operational Risk Reviews and participate in such reviews by Group insurance brokers.
• Liaise with Group BRM, Group Insurance Brokers and MTN management to ensure auctioning of operational risk review recommendations.
• Ensure adherence to Group and local insurance programmes and policies by: o Implementing insurance risk management requirements/guidelines and practices, monitoring these practices and reporting on them.
• Reviewing insurable risks associated with new and existing businesses and products,
• Performing cost/benefit analysis of policy deductibles and recommend buying these down locally wherever necessary,
• Engaging Group BRM to ensure that insurance deductibles assigned to MTN are favorable to our operating conditions.
• Enhancing incident management (insurance management and loss control activities),
• Conducting insurance policy training and adherence campaigns,
• Conducting preventative reporting on loss ratios and related recommendations.
• Business Continuity and Crisis Risk Management:
• Participate in the Business Continuity Plan development implementation, monitoring and reviewing activities.
• Participate in the update and implementation of crisis risk management activities.

Job requirement
The applicant must possess a University degree. He or she should have a minimum of three years of Risk Management experience in areas of implementation, Operational Risk Management, Business Continuity and Crisis Risk Management, Insurance Risk Management in an Internationally recognised company. Underwriting
experience will be an added advantage.
In addition, he or she must have insurance industry experience, dealing with brokers and insurance companies. Experience in a company with a large motor fleet and insurance policy portfolio will also be advantageous.
Applicants need to be proficient in the company standard software, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, MS Projects and Access. A good understanding of the telecommunication business processes, products, services and overall business will be an added advantage.
In addition he or she must demonstrate thorough knowledge and understanding of enterprise-wide and insurance risk and control methodologies, possess good conflict handling skills, as well as have an independent attitude and good team spirit.
He or she must have good project management skills, including good presentation and facilitation skills. He or she should be a person of integrity and honesty and meet reporting deadlines.
