Responsibilities:
Under close supervision of the senior program manager or other designated person with authority provides administrative and logistical support.
Under close supervision and direction, contributes to writing and reporting of various documents specific to the team and/or region.
Under close supervision, creates initial drafts of budgets and monitors program budgets.
Participates in program support, and conducts research on programs or issues related to programs. Assists in liaising with functional and regional team members.
Assists in event preparation.
Trains and supervises interns on tasks.
Provides administrative support for proposal production and work plan formulation. Takes part in strategic and work plan discussions.
Attends meetings to keep up-to-date on the latest information on team, region or partners.
Helps monitor political developments related to country or regional programming.
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree, preferably in International Relations or Political Science.
For a Senior Program Assistant, a minimum of (2) two years work experience is required.
Demonstrated coursework, internships and/or experience in international/sustainable development, comparative politics, advocacy, women’s issues, community organizing, organizational capacity building, legislative affairs or political campaigning.
Experience living and working in the Southern and East Africa region preferred.
Excellent interpersonal skills to effectively interact with all levels of staff, U.S. and foreign government personnel and NGO community. Strong sense of professionalism.
Good oral and written communication skills to effectively present information and respond to questions.
Working knowledge of basic budget and accounting procedures, including Microsoft Excel.
Ability to prioritize, multiple-task, follow-through with inquiries and meet deadlines.
Positive attitude and ability to take initiative.
Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills. Detail-oriented.
Interest in the political environment and people of the Southern and East Africa region.
Political analysis skills.
Ability and willingness to accept occasional travel to regional locations often remote and difficult to reach.
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs, social media and web-based tools.
Ability to apply discretion and maintain confidential information.
