A 2-year postdoctoral / research scientist position (100%) is available at the Department of Basic Sciences and Aquatic Medicine, Norwegian School of Veterinary Science, from September 1, 2011.
The position is within Aleström Zebrafish Lab (AZLab), a zebrafish developmental biology laboratory being part of the Department of Basic Sciences and Aquatic Medicine and functioning as the Norwegian Zebrafish Platform, coordinator of the Zebrafish Network Norway, located at the Norwegian School of Veterinary Science. The project is in close collaboration with Professor Philippe Collas Lab at the Institute of Basic Medical Sciences, University of Oslo and the Stem Cell Epigenetics Laboratory (SCEL), a laboratory working on the epigenetic regulation of gene expression in the context of human, mouse and zebrafish stem cell biology.
The project entails derivation and characterization of pluripotent cells in zebrafish and establishment of a proof-of-concept of the utility of these cells as tools to study a genetic disease. Work will involve state-of-the-art cell imaging, biochemical and epigenetic approaches. Work is expected to be carried out at AZLab and partly at SCEL.
The selected candidate will have strong knowledge and work experience with pluripotent stem cell derivation and culture, basic molecular techniques and cell biology (transfection, FACS, etc), microscopy and image analysis, and experience in epigenetics (e.g., ChIP assays, DNA methylation analysis). Experience in bioinformatics analysis of gene expression and epigenomics data on a genome-wide scale will be an advantage. The position entails design and carry out of experiments, writing of manuscripts and tutoring of students or technicians. The candidate will be required to work independently yet have strong collaborative capabilities.
Candidates must hold a Ph.D. degree in cell biology, molecular biology or developmental biology.
In the criteria for selection crucial emphasis will be given to expertise from working with pluripotent cell cultures and related advanced cell biology analytical methods, placed considerable emphasis on expertise in molecular biology and it will be desirable with experience in bioinformatics.

There is a mandatory membership in the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund. The Norwegian School of Veterinary Science has a private kindergarten for children age 0-6 years old.
Deadline for application: 31st of July 2011. All applicants are requested to register their applications electronically via our web-pages at www.nvh.no under: about NVH-employment. Applications are not valid if sent by e-mail. All applicants must also send 4 complete examples of their application, with references and certificates, publication list and academic work within 1 week after the application deadline.
Shortlisted applicants will be selected for an interview. A research seminar may be expected to be given as part of the interview.
The public work force in Norway is expected to reflect the diversity within civil society as far as possible, and the School’s personnel policy goal is to achieve a mixed balance of age and gender and to recruit persons with an immigrant background. Applicants with an immigrant background are encouraged to apply.
