The Role
The School of Geography, Geology and the Environment is looking to appoint a Lecturer in Applied Geology with effect from 1 September 2011 on a two year fixed-term basis.
We are searching for a geoscientist with a PhD or soon to be completed PhD, a track record in research, and experience of delivering lecture and practical material. In particular we are looking for somebody with expertise in one or more of the following areas: mineral deposit geology, sedimentology, geological hazards, hydrogeology, engineering geology.
Applicants will participate in the delivery of undergraduate and postgraduate teaching across a range of courses in geology and applied geology, including fieldwork, practical studies, project supervisions (as appropriate) and other related activities pertinent to the role, including liaising with colleagues on course development. You will to need to be submissible to the forthcoming REF exercise and will contribute to the development of research in the Centre of Earth and Environmental Science Research through academic publication and collaborative research programmes (with both internal and external collaborators).
You will be supported a range of well equipped research laboratories dedicated to the microanalysis of geomaterials (ICP-AES, ICP-MS, portable XRF, Laser Raman spectroscopy, Zeiss EVO50 SEM with Oxford Instruments INCA Energy and Wave (EDS and EDS) detectors, Jeol 1010 TEM, Leica TLS SP2 Confocal Scanning Laser Microscope; Fluid Inclusion microscopes).
The appointee will be a member of Kingston University’s Centre for Earth and Environmental Science Research (www.kingston.ac.uk/ceesr). Geological research within the Centre falls within both the Geodynamics and Crustal Processes Research Group and the Environmental Change Research Group. The appointee will be expected to contribute to research in at least one of these areas.
