The Kenya Health Behavior Study is seeking a field-based coordinator to help to manage local operations in the Stage 2 RAFIKI trial described above.
The North American coordinator will collaborate jointly with the local experienced Kenyan coordinator and international team of investigators to run the trial. The study involves a collaboration between the schools of medicine at Brown, Indiana, Syracuse, and Yale universities in the U.S. and Moi University and the AMPATH collaboration in Kenya. There is a reasonably large community onsite in Eldoret of North American and Kenyan clinical and research staff and faculty. Position would start in October 2011 and would involve a one-year stay onsite in Eldoret, Kenya (with possible option for renewal).
Duties include:
--liaise with local coordinator and team of international investigators to oversee the local operations related to study preparation, recruitment, intervention and follow-up phases of the project
--liaise with local coordinator, the CBT counseling manager and the Healthy Lifestyles counseling manager to supervise counselors
--liaise with the local coordinator to supervise research assistants in participant scheduling, survey administration and data quality monitoring activities
--maintain close communication with the North American PI
Requirements for the position:
--masters degree in clinical or counseling psychology or public health. Note: This would be an Ideal position for an individual with a masters degree in clinical or counseling psychology who would like to obtain clinical research experience in global health to prepare for related doctoral studies.
--strong organizational skills and ability to meet deadlines
--cultural sensitivity and ability to work as a team player
--ability to supervise and manage a team
--assist counseling managers in overseeing paraprofessional counselors (if relevant)
--previous experience in a resource-limited setting is desirable but not required
Compensation:
--Compensation includes a competitive salary, 2 round trip airfare tickets to Kenya (1 for vacation), 2-week vacation, evacuation insurance and local medical expenses.
