We seek to recruit nutritionist whose primary focus will be to improve the quality of existing health services, as well as improving preventive and curative care provided at home; a commitment to reaching underserved communities; a focus on working to understand and remove existing barriers to high-quality care; and mobilization of social and political support at all levels to create and sustain an enabling environment for the delivery of key interventions. The nutritionist for MCHIP and APHIA Plus project will be based in Kisumu and will strive to include public private partnership to advance our goals.
Primary duties and responsibilities include:
- Provide technical support in infant and young child feeding (breastfeeding, complementary and young child feeding), infant and young child nutrition, maternal nutrition, and infant feeding and nutrition support to HIV programming (in Prevention of Mother to Child Transmission, Care & Treatment and Orphans and Vulnerable Children programming).
- Stay current with latest technical knowledge and programming experience in infant and young child feeding and nutrition and with guidance from senior staff incorporate the state of the art research and programming into technical strategies, program design, country implementation, and policies for MCHIP and APHIA Plus projects.
- Implementation of child survival strategies and activities.
- Implementation of nutrition-focused activities in low resource settings.
- Provide technical assistance for the development and effective implementation of approaches, tools, and materials to support infant feeding and nutrition activities.
- Monitor infant feeding and nutrition work.
- Participate in and support the participation of colleagues in technical meetings and conferences on nutrition, infant feeding, Prevention of Mother to Child Transmission, pediatric HIV/AIDS,
- Advanced degree in nutrition or public health with nutrition background
- Minimum of 5 years' work experience including developing and implementing nutrition prevention and care programming world wide; knowledge of nutrition and/or infant feeding and HIV.
- Long- and short-term experience in infant and young child feeding and HIV, breastfeeding and complementary feeding, and maternal nutrition and HIV, and child survival programming or experience in community nutrition programming, including growth promotion and monitoring, nutritional assessment, and other community based approaches
- Experience and expertise in behavior change, training, and/or curriculum development preferred.
- Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with team members, host country counterparts.
- Travel required approximately 25% of time.
- Prior experience/knowledge of primary health care and community-based care programs and experience with infant and young child feeding preferred.
- Demonstrable experience in working with micronutrient, Pediatric HIV setting
