General Manager - Short Term Business
This is a senior leadership position that takes charge of the core functions of the company i.e. Underwriting, Claims, as well as development of our short-term business portfolio.
Key deliverables include: achievement of the company’s immediate and long term goals, optimising key processes and ensuring that service and quality standards are at par with or above the market leaders and are met in all instances.

- Identify UAP’s competitive advantage in the Ugandan market and ensure that this is factored into the company’s strategic and business planning processes.
- Set targets for the business development team and take action to ensure that these are achieved.
- Drive business development, build and maintain relationships with key players and use every opportunity to build a positive image of UAP in the market place.
- Stay abreast of developments in the local and international insurance industry and strive to ensure that UAP operations match those standards.
- Set business performance standards in all technical operation areas, develop processes and monitor to ensure compliance.
- Set and drive the implementation of high quality customer care and management standards that secure UAP’s image in the market as a supplier of first class products.
This position will suit qualified insurers (CII) with a University degree and 10+ years experience in the industry; regionally or other.
Essential skills include: strategic thinking; business development, technical standard / processes development & enforcement; a strong leadership profile and the ability to manage and motivate staff to high standards of performance.
Head of Life Business
With responsibility for managing and growing the life business in a market where demand for this service is still largely under-developed, you will be expected to contribute to the development and implementation of quality strategic plans for growing sales through the establishment of new accounts, growth of existing ones and the launch of new products.
Specifically, you will be expected to:

Head of Life Business
With responsibility for managing and growing the life business in a market where demand for this service is still largely under-developed, you will be expected to contribute to the development and implementation of quality strategic plans for growing sales through the establishment of new accounts, growth of existing ones and the launch of new products.
Specifically, you will be expected to:
- Develop a keen understanding of the market’s requirements (real and potential) for life products as well as the barriers to uptake.
- Lead in the development of suitable products and market these aggressively.
- Build and maintain strong business relationships with clients and monitor their needs and those of the market to identify growth opportunities.
- Identify opportunities for building relationships with banks and other financial institutions for selling of life products
Thorough knowledge of life business is essential as is a track record of successfully building life insurance businesses in challenging environments. Possession of excellent communication and interpersonal skills is a must.
