T-MARC is an independent, Tanzanian, not for profit, non-governmental organisation (NGO) working for the benefit of Tanzanians. T-MARC is marketing the condom brand Dume with three line extensions: Classic, Extreme, and Desire. In July 2015, T-MARC developed a new Strategic Plan for the organization. A key part of the strategy is establishing a social enterprise operation for Dume and other potential products to be introduced as part of T-MARC portfolio in the future.
PSI is looking for a New Business Consultant to support T-MARC to: maximize the commercial market output of Dume condom brand by optimizing the route to market for Dume in the current channels; set up the most efficient sales operation possible; run in the most efficient way; and to identify and test new channels of distributions for Dume. Additionally, the consultant to identify market opportunities in terms of new products that could potentially fit the sales channel built for Dume.

- Conduct an analysis of consumer and trade insights based on existing research and field observation. Use these insights as evidence to improve Dume's route to market and trade marketing strategy as well as foundation for exploring new product introductions;
- Assist T-MARC Sales Manager to scale up the sales organization unit. Focus on efficiency, systems, credit and sales receivables policies, and sales team skills and rewards system.
- Identify new channel opportunities for Dume. This could include changing the distribution model and the commercial policy, restructuring of the sales organization, redesigning the trade marketing plan, and identifying and testing new channels (with higher margins) or other adjustments in the route-to-market as deemed by the trade and shopper insights and efficiency optimization;
- Assist T-MARC with tracking cost recovery financial analysis
- Conduct market analyses for introduction of up to three new products in the distribution pipeline of T-MARC.What are we looking for? The consultant must be a seasoned commercial, sales or marketing professional (12+ years related experience) with proven track record of for-profit successful FMCG or pharma product launches, developing route-to-market strategies, channel development and, setting up commercial sales operations and working closely with the trade in Tanzania. Experience in running commercial business units (responsible for bottom line) will be a plus. Swahili knowledge is an advantage.
Timeline: Work is expected to start in April 2016, with an expected completion date by end of July 2016.
Expected Output: A project plan will be drafted with PSI and T-MARC and progress against plan must be reported on every month. Deliverables of the consultancy will be:
- Report with key trade and shopper insights (PowerPoint or Word)
- Dume marketing plan with emphasis on Route to Market Strategy (incl. optimization of efficiency and maximization of volume);
- New Channel Development Report – including design and results of market tests
- Market analysis/scoping for new product introduction.
