POSITION SUMMARY
The Information Technology Technician I assists in the deployment, maintenance, tracking, troubleshooting and purchasing of, primarily personal, information technology systems for The Nature Conservancy in Africa. This position is located in Arusha, Tanzania or Nairobi, Kenya.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The Information Technology Technician I assists in the deployment, maintenance, troubleshooting, tracking, and purchasing of information technology systems (including PC and LAN equipment) for Nature Conservancy offices. S/he assists local and remote staff on troubleshooting software and hardware problems including network issues. S/he monitors, optimizes performance and provides disaster recovery service for the information systems in the office. Acts as a point of communication between TIS and primary operating business units and external vendors. S/he performs local operations functions as appropriate in accordance with TNC and TIS standards, policies and procedures.
RESPONSIBILITIES & SCOPE
- Provide technical support (PC and network equipment) including backup recovery. Performs complex software and hardware troubleshooting, all under the direction of a TISOM or a Program Director.
- Assist with local inventory maintenance and software license management. Monitors security compliance in accordance with TNC and TIS standards, policies and procedures.
- Provide new TNC staff with PC setup and orientation.
- Participate in the communication and deployment of new technology standards and best practices as appropriate.
- Provide assistance for the IT portion of new office setups, office expansions, etc. This includes relocation and/or installation of voice/data communications solutions, LAN and PC equipment.
- Responsible for processing purchase orders and installation of IT hardware and software (e.g. PC’s and peripherals) for primary Operating Units.
- Responsible for monitoring data backups in the offices to ensure that they are completed on a regular basis.
- Occasional overnight travel may be necessary.
MINIIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- 2 years of work experience troubleshooting computer and network systems.
- Experience with MS Office software, Windows and Macintosh environment.
- Experience manipulating, analyzing and interpreting data.
- Experience with remote support tools.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Demonstrated work experience providing customer service.
- Experience with training and documenting technology tools for regular staff learning.
- Fluency in English and Kiswahili required. Additional languages may be helpful.
- Familiarity with setup of meeting room systems and collaboration tools
- Experience supporting and troubleshooting clean power systems
- A+ or MCP certification helpful. Required within 1 year.
- GIS skills will be an added advantage
- Knowledge of local IT vendors and procedures
- Excellent customer service skills.
