The Tanzania Standard (Newspapers) Limited is a limited liability company owned by the Government of the United Republic of Tanzania. The company publishes Tanzania's leading newspapers - Daily News, Sunday News, HabariLeo, HabariLeo Jumapili and SpotiLeo.
The company wishes to recruit suitably qualified Sub-Editors and Senior Writers for its English publications.
1. SUB-EDITOR
Number of Positions : 3
Department : Editorial
Reports to :Editor, Daily News
Qualifications:
Holder of M.A in Journalism / Mass communication or its equivalent from a recognized Institution. Must have at least Seven (7) years relevant work experience. S/he must have computer skills.
Duties and Responsibilities
Writing, rewriting and editing text
Making sure that 'house style' is adhered to
Verifying information and story details, including figures, names of people and places
Researching for additional/ background information for writers' stories, features and commentaries
Making sure that stories are accurate and do not compromise legality
Proposing/developing graphics, data analysis, and other visual story elements
Gathering and preparing information for foreign news pages
Designing page layouts .
Ensuring that lies are the right length and correctly placed on pages
Sizing photography and placing them within relevant articles
Signing off pages for printing
Mentoring writers
Developing individual targets and performance standards as part of the individual performance agreement in consultation with the section head .
Performing any other duties as may be assigned by the head of section
