About IRRI
IRRI is a nonprofit independent research and training organization and is a member of the CGIAR Consortium. IRRI's research is being done under the framework of the CGIAR Research Program on Rice, also known as the Global Rice Science Partnership (GRiSP), which the Institute leads.
Job Purpose
Under the direction of the IRRI East & Southern Africa Representative, the successful candidate will work as a consultant and will be responsible for the liaison between the Institute office in Tanzania and the Government of Tanzania and also between IRRI and other institutions and partners in the country. This includes the promotion of IRRI\'s mandate and the identification of potential funding opportunities. The successful candidate will also have to support the strengthening of IRRI\'s rice program in Tanzania. The candidate consultant should be able to pass at least 2 days per week at IRRI-Tanzania office in Dar-Es-Salaam for the liaison work.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Develop a quarterly work plan of activities and budget to be discussed with the IRRI Regional Coordinator in East and Southern Africa (ESA)
- Liaise and facilitate updating or revising IRRI-Tanzania MOU, when time comes.
- Provide support to IRRI team in Tanzania, be at least 2 days per week in IRRI Office in Dar-Es-Salaam for liaison work
- Liaise between IRRI and the Ministry of Agriculture, research and training institutes and the private sector as agreed and according to the MOU between IRRI and the Government of Tanzania
- Identify potential funding opportunities
- Inform of official visits by IRRI staff and organize them in association with the Ministry of Agriculture and ,other public and private agricultural partners in Tanzania
- In collaboration with Rice Research Coordinator at KATRIN, submit and follow up of variety release documents to Tanzania Official Seed Certification Institute (TOSCI)
- Facilitate scientific interactions, including training and other forms of capacity building, between IRRI and the Ministry of Agriculture, research and training institutes and the private sector in order to strengthen the rice sector in Tanzania.
- In consultation with the IRRI Regional Coordinator in East and Southern Africa (ESA), liaise with other CGIAR Centers and development organizations to promote collaboration, site integration principles, and coordinated research for development activities across CGIAR institutes active in Tanzania.
