BirdLife International is seeking to recruit an enthusiastic and experienced individual to head the BirdLife Project Office and guide the management and implementation of on-going BirdLife/RSPB project and advocacy work in Tanzania.
Main duties and responsibilities will include:
- To ensure sound governance of the organisation in terms of human resources, financial and administrative management and the organisation’s adherence to current Tanzanian labour laws and practices.
- Take overall responsibility for the management of BirdLife project office staff and create an effective working atmosphere for the successful delivery of existing projects.
- Ensure the successful delivery of the DFID Ulugurus project and the CEPF funded BirdLife Project “Consolidating biodiversity data and information in the Eastern Arc Mountains and Coastal Forests (EACF)”
- Ensure that the Birdlife project office finances are professionally managed at all times, activities undertaken within allocated budgets and timely financial reports submitted.
- Represent the BirdLife Project Office in local and international fora and build the reputation of the organisation.
The required qualifications and skills are:
- MSc or equivalent in an environmentally related subject
- Knowledge of Environmental issues in Tanzania, Tanzanian environmental policy. legal and institutional structures
- Knowledge of NGO Governance
- Conservation experience (1Oyears +)
- Project development and Management
- Advocacy skills. Leadership skills, Strategic Management skills. Good ccmmunication skills and Diplomacy
Location: The position will be based in Arusha, Tanzania with frequent travel to Dar-es-Salaam
Duration: Initially a 2 year fixed term contract with a 6 month probation period
Salary & benefits: A salary range of between GBP 15,000 – GBP 18,000 annually inclusive of all benefits, commensurate with experience and qualifications, and acccrding to BirdLife International/Africa Division terms and conditions.
