The role

The purpose of the role is to represent Save the Children in Zanzibar, under leadership of Tanzania Country Director and Senior Management Team. Zanzibar Representative will supervise Zanzibar team and Unguja and Pemba offices and effectively manage financial and other resources of the program. The post will lead the strategic development and delivery of the high quality, innovative programs that deliver immediate and lasting change for children, in keeping with the Save the Children Theory of Change, global strategies and programme objectives. Zanizibar Representative will develop and maintain a range of relevant internal and external relationships, including strategic partnerships, and lead high level advocacy initiatives in Zanzibar

Qualifications and experience

• Commitment to and understanding of Save the Children’s vision, mission and values including rights-based approaches * At least a Masters Degree or equivalent from a recognized university in development studies, social sciences or similar discipline. * At least 4 years senior management experience of which at least 2 will be as manager of programme engaged in child-orientated community development. * Solid project management skills related to organizational development projects and international, cross-functional teams with a proven history of delivering results * An in-depth understanding of national (Tanzania and Zanzibar) and international development issues in particular in relation to children * Excellent interpersonal, communication and presentation skills * Demonstrated skills and experience working in the field of MVC and child protection * Experience working with young people and a commitment to child participation and child protection * Demonstrated ability to influence change * Experience and knowledge of effective financial and budgetary control and securing and managing grants from major institutional donors * Previous experience of managing and developing a team and the ability to lead, motivate and develop others * Previous experience with an international non government organization * Experience of working in a multi-cultural environment * Ability and willingness to change work practices and hours, and work with incoming teams in the event of major emergencies * Excellent command of written and spoken English. * Clean police record * Understanding of other sectoral programs (Health, Nutrition, , HIV, FS and L, Emergencies) .
