POSITION SUMMARY
Ifakara Health Institute seeks exceptional individuals to strengthen the Finance & Accounts department to meet standards of excellence required of a world-class research institute and as part of defined succession plan to systematically replace, in the coming years, several Principal Accountants’ positions including the post of Chief Financial Officer.
Senior Accountant is expected to be a self-motivated person and able to lead one or several accounting unit teams and to coach, guide and train young assistant accountants in their professional career development. The successful candidate will combine deep accounting skills with proven leadership and management experience.
DUTIES OF SENIOR ACCOUNTANTS
• Lead one or several finance and accounts teams;
• Coach, guide and train young assistant accountants in their career development and be part of IHI’s capacity building initiative;
• Plan, lead, control and coordinate Institutional annual plan and budget preparations;
• Plan, lead, control and coordinate all activities of assigned tasks;
• Establish a service and delivery culture committed to leadership, professionalism and performance;
• Ensure that all finance processes, procedures and systems run efficiently and effectively, meet customer’s expectations and respects all legal requirements of the United Republic of Tanzania;
• Establish a zero error working culture;
• Ensure that Budget Control Reports are timely prepared and submitted to all users;
• Ensure that all major financial accounting deadlines are met;
• Review research proposals to ensure that budget and cash flow related data are well defined;
• Ensure an efficient cost and management accounting within IHI;
• Run regular reviews of all cost items and define action plans to reduce unnecessary costs;
• Define and implement financial models to ensure IHI’s financial sustainability and;
• Guide the management for further improvements in processes and in accounting.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
Holder of a degree in accounting or equivalent qualification. CPA (T) qualification with relevant working experience in a reputable not for profit organization will be an added advantage;
• In depth knowledge of International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and as well as the International Public Sector Accounting Standards (IPSAS);
• At least 10 year’s working experience, including 5+ years in managerial positions;
• Proven technical proficiency in accountancy;
• Experience in administration will be an additional advantage;
• Leadership and management experience, including ability to communicate effectively with senior management;
• Very good understanding of modern IT accounting systems and;
• High motivation, team-working skills and problem-solving attitude.
