Born 19 years ago as an emergency lifeline service for Rwanda, the BBC Great Lakes Service is now a highly-respected provider of news and information in Kinyarwanda and Kirundi. We broadcast two 30 minute transmissions per day, covering the main regional and global developments. With contributions from correspondents on the ground, analysts and a wide variety of contacts, we have gained a significant audience for our current affairs programmes. As a Producer, you’ll work as part of the editorial team responsible for carrying out the main editorial, managerial and administrative tasks

Role
As a Producer working in this exciting and demanding live environment, on a daily basis you’ll research, translate, report on and produce accurate, informed and interesting news and programming to the highest possible standards in Kinyarwanda/Kirundi. You’ll be originating ideas, researching and preparing items, features, complete programmes, background and analysis for radio, online and other media forms.

Requirements
You’ll need to have substantial recent and relevant journalistic experience with the demonstrable ability to originate, adapt and translate material appropriate to differing media forms. An in depth and up to date knowledge of Burundian and DR Congo current affairs is required, as is a good knowledge of international affairs and a genuine passion for explaining the world to our audiences. Kinyarwanda or Kirundi as your first (or equivalent) language is essential in this role, as is your ability to communicate effectively in English and French. You’ll also need an excellent broadcasting voice and presentation style.
