AFRICAN UNION VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT: PROGRAM OFFICER

The African Union, established as a unique Pan African continental body, is charged with spearheading Africa’s rapid integration and sustainable development by promoting unity, solidarity, cohesion and cooperation among the peoples of Africa and African States as well as developing a New Partnership worldwide. Its Headquarters is located in Addis Ababa, capital city of Ethiopia.

In seeking to achieve these objectives, the African Union intends to strengthen its capacity to deliver, by amongst others, the implementation of its organization structure and the filling of all vacant posts.

The Commission of the African Union invites applicants who are citizens of Member States for the post of Program officer - Gender Policy and Development Division-.

1. POST:

Job Title: Program officer
Level: P2
Supervisor: Head of Gender Policy and Development Division
Directorate: Women, Gender and Development Directorate
Duty Station: Addis Ababa, Ethiopia

2. MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Under the direct supervision of the Head of Gender Policy and Development Division, he/she will be responsible for the following:

• Assisting to prepare, develop, organize, coordinate and ensure the implementation of action plans and implement programs and activities of the Division of Gender Policy and Development; Helping to prepare, develop, organize, coordinate and ensure the implementation of action plans and implement programs and activities of the Division of Gender Policy and Development;
• Assisting to monitor gender mainstreaming in the policy of the African Union and its various structures; 
• Assisting to lead and coordinate the monitoring of policy coherence in the process of planning, monitoring and evaluation of programs and activities of the African Union;
• Assisting to write monitoring reports and evaluation of programs and activities of the division; 
• Assisting to organize programs for the development of capabilities of the AU and other bodies to strengthen gender mainstreaming; 
• Assisting in planning and preparing the budget and work programs of the Division; 
• Assisting in the collection and analysis of statistical data on gender issues on the instructions of the superior; 
• Assisting in the organization of group meetings, conferences, consultations with other agencies and partners as required; 
• Assisting to develop reports and papers on sensitive and crucial issues of concern to the supervisor in relation to the field of intervention; 
• Write letters, documents, speeches and other correspondence to the supervisor; 
• Provide information and make suggestions and recommendations; 
• Perform tasks related instruction supervisor. 

4. QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED 

A university degree in economics, statistics and social sciences or other relevant field with a focus on gender or related fields. An advanced university degree (Masters or equivalent) will be an asset.

4. PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

Have at least 5 years experience preferably supported gender and development. Have national, regional and/or international experience in gender planning, gender statistics or gender studies is desired.

5. OTHER RELEVANT SKILLS:

• Demonstrate professionalism. 
• Ability to undertake studies and analytical skills associated with good decision-making. 
• Experience in planning, management, excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work in a multicultural environment 
• Good communication skills 
• Excellent report-writing skills 
• Computer Skills 

7. LANGUAGE REQUIREMENT: 

Proficiency in one of the African Union working languages. Proficiency of one or several other working language(s) would be an added advantage. 

8. AGE REQUIREMENT: 

Candidates must preferably be between 25 and 35 years old. 

9. TENURE OF APPOINTMENT: 

The appointment will be made on fixed term contract for a period of three (3) years, of which the first twelve months be consider as a probationary period. Thereafter, the contract will be for a period of two years renewable, subject to satisfactory performance and deliverables.

11. REMUNERATION: 

Indicative basic salary US$ 27,892.00 per annum plus other related entitlements e.g. post adjustment (46% of basic salary), housing allowance (US$14,414.40 per annum), education allowance (75% of tuition and other related expenses for every eligible dependent up to a maximum of US$7,800.00 per child per annum), etc. for internationally recruited staff of the Commission.
