Position Title: Contracts Specialist

Job Summary:
The Contracts Specialist will provide support and assistance to the Legal Department with regard to legal transactions, including but not limited to assisting program staff with legal due diligence and initial transaction requests, drafting template agreements, and ensuring local compliance with Grameen Foundation’s Legal Department policies.
Reporting and relationships:
The Contracts Specialist will report to the General Counsel and will have a dotted line reporting relationship with the Africa CEO.
Availability:
The Contracts Specialist will be expected to work a standard workweek of 40 hours. Any additional hours must be approved in writing; in no event will individual work be permitted to work more than 52 hours per week. Travel to other Grameen Foundation offices will be required: one month training in Washington DC, and bi-month trips the first year to our offices in Uganda and Ghana, potential for travel to Asia Region offices. The position will require African intercontinental travel of up to 30%-40% and international travel occasionally.
Essential Job Functions
• Coordinates legal due diligence for program and regional staff
• Develops contracts using templates as directed by the Legal Department
• Assists Legal department in transactional review process
• Coordinates with program and regional staff on transactional need
• Proven skills and knowledge in drafting contracts and contract management
• Serve as a local coordinator and liaison for legal transactions with local field offices and GF’s HQ legal department
• Reviews and research contractual documents for action
• Performs other duties as assigned
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
• Deep commitment to eradication of poverty and alignment with Grameen Foundation’s mission
• Ability to gain working knowledge of GFUSA's policies, procedures, and practices;
• Extensive Knowledge of contracts and contracting procedures and processes
• Knowledge of USAID award and procurement regulations
• Ability to effectively communicate with other staff members;
• Ability to act as a representative of the Legal Department
Education and Experience
• Bachelor’s degree preferred or equivalent technical training, education, with five (5) or more years of proven broad and comprehensive experience in procurement and/or contract review and drafting
• Experience with an NGO and USAID contracting experience preferred
Physical and Environmental Conditions
This position does not require unusual demands for physical effort. This position may occasionally require physical effort to lift and transport boxes weighing no more than 50 pounds. Work environment involves everyday risks or discomforts that require normal safety precautions typical of places such as offices, meeting or training rooms, residences, or commercial vehicles; e.g., use of safe work place practices with office equipment, and/or avoidance of trips and falls, and observance of fire regulations and traffic signals.
Work Environment and Working Conditions for Travelers to Developing Countries
While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to working conditions and hazards which are prevalent for the location and/or country of assignment. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Work is primarily performed indoors with some potential for exposure to safety and health hazards related to electronics work. The employee may be required to travel overseas and domestically. When traveling overseas in a developing country, the employee may be exposed to: Physical Hazards (illnesses, noise, extreme temperatures, wet or humid climates, etc.) Road Hazards (unfinished/dirt roads, potholes, traffic-related accidents), and Atmospheric Conditions (odors, dust, fumes, smog, etc.).
