This key role will be responsible for the overall human resources function for the South and East Africa Region which has significant presence in South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda, Mozambique, Zimbabwe, Zambia and DRC. There is a lesser degree of presence in other countries such as Sudan and Ethiopia which will increase as the business grows and it may extend to other countries in the region such as Kenya.
The purpose of the role is to enhance the organisation’s ability to attract, engage and develop talent in order to support Olam’s ambitious growth plans in this region. The broad agenda is to develop the overall quality of national talent in each of these countries. Currently most of the senior leadership team is manned by expats and the objective is to create a leadership pipeline of national talent.
Desired Skills & Experience
PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE
- Must have 12 – 15 years’ human resources management experience, 5 -7 years of which have been in Senior Management/Executive capacities. Experience managing multiple countries in Africa is critical.
- Should ideally be able to demonstrate sound knowledge of both South African and Sub-Saharan Africa policies and procedures and statutory compliance, through previous experience
- Must have experience managing the human resources function at a regional level in Africa with oversight of multiple countries in multinational organisations
- Mix of experience should ideally include FMCG and manufacturing
- Must have proven experience in independently conceptualising and implemented talent processes suited to business requirements
- Should demonstrate the ability to contribute to strategic and visionary overall business leadership to support the growth and competitiveness of the organisation.
- Must have the ability to engage senior business leaders assisting them with HR solutions to their business problems.
- Experience in high growth environments will be an advantage.
