Position Description:
The International Potato Center (CIP) is a research centre that seeks to reduce poverty and achieve food security on a sustained basis in developing countries through scientific research and related activities on potato, sweet potato, and other root and tuber crops and on the improved management of natural resources in the Andes and other mountain areas. CIP operates a Regional Office for the Sub-Saharan Africa based in Nairobi, Kenya. CIP is seeking to recruit a Project Accounting Manager (PAM) and Driver for CIP -SSA supported potato project in Tanzania coordinated from ARI Uyole, Mbeya. The two are Nationally Recruited Staff (NRS) positions that will be managed by the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture office in Dar es Salaam.
Project Accounting Manager
Among other function, the PAM will assist in carrying out; liaison, protocol, purchasing and accounting services for CIP -SSA for the project.
Specific duties will include:
Keep vehicle clean
Operate vehicle in a safe and courteous manner and always follow safety standards
Regularly inspect the vehicle and regularly general maintenance services as specified in the Nissan and Toyota manual in order to keep the vehicle in good condition
Advise project manager or administrative assistant in due course minor or major repairs as soon as a problem is detected
Take vehicle for routine servicing as specified in the manual, and inca it is necessary with approval from IITA Dar es Salaam office,
Drive the vehicle taking project staff and partners for fieldwork as ne arises
Assist in the delivery of mail, equipment, supplies, documents partners and other institutions as required
Update the vehicle logbook on a daily basis with the trips undertake indicating start and end kms, the trip description and the responsible officer
Send copy of vehicle logbook at the end of every month to the Administrator/Account Assistant for computing and charging mileage costs to appropriate costs centers
Liaise regularly with project manager and administrative assistant weekly updates on activities ,
Report accidents to the Nairobi CIP office, the program leader and the police as soon as they occur
Assist in any other activity as needed
Professional Requirements
Class C or above current and valid driving permit Five years of proven, accident-free, vehicle driving At least standard seven school education
Age limit at 35 -50 years
Written and spoken Kiswahili and English are added advantage
Experience in driving in highland roads and in off-road conditions particularly in southern highlands of Tanzania will be appreciated
