WVI Summer Internship Programme - Global Supply Chain Management Intern

PURPOSE OF POSITION:

      Purpose:
    • The WVI Internship Programme – U.S. offers qualified entry level individuals the opportunity to acquire practical experience, professional skills and a broadened perspective of World Vision International’s work under the direct supervision of experienced WVI staff.

      Scope of Work:
    • The WVI Internship Programme – U.S. is designed to develop individuals by engaging them in structured work assignments as well as strengthening their relational skills through interactive teamwork, fundraising and service oriented campaigns.

      Programme Activities:
    • Department Orientations
    • Summer Intern Chapel [GCLA intern positions only]
    • Fundraisers supporting the LA Area Development Programme and Youth Empowerment Project (YEP) [GCLA intern positions only]
    • Field visits may include: LA ADP, YEP meetings and/or World Vision Storehouse [GCLA intern positions only]

      PROGRAMME LOGISTICS & QUALIFICATIONS
    • Location: -Positions location vary from Monrovia, CA; Federal Way, WA; or Washington DC
    • Stipend: -$750/month
    • Duration of Programme: -3 months June through August 2012

      Eligible Participants:
    • Undergraduate Students
    • Graduate Students
    • Recently graduated students
    • Adhere to the Christian Statement of Faith required of all World Vision International employees
    • Possess eligibility to work in the United States

      The intern filling this position will:
    • Learn about the supply chain management industry and its important role in getting goods to World Vision’s beneficiaries via informational interviews with team members and access to industry best practices.
    • Practice effective and persuasive communication to a global, multi-cultural audience.
    • Practice networking and professional relationship building and influencing skills.
    • Participate in department life through devotions, meetings, and other structures.

      Projects to include
    • Network design work, specifically node location and corridor density analyses
    • Build out logistics campus concepts
    • In depth review of World Vision logistics practices
    • In depth subject matter expert (SME) review of SCM enabler content
    • Identify and validate potential SCM SMEs who can deploy to World Vision offices in order to act as technical advisors to improve programme quality and impact
    • In depth review of SCM key performance indicators
    • In depth review of SCM planning practices and process documentation
    • Optimize the opportunity between SCM and Treasury
    • SCM spend management and supplier management processes
    • Identify and validate potential SCM SMEs who can deploy to World Vision offices in order to act as technical advisors to improve programme quality and impact

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
      REQUIRED:
    • University and/or advanced degree in business administration or supply chain management-related degree (e.g. BA, BSc or BCom degree) or equivalent experience in supply chain management
    • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written, and the ability to communicate cross-culturally
    • Current knowledge of the latest developments in the supply chain management field, preferably in various global industries.

      PREFERRED:
    • Experience in logistics network design work.
    • Comprehension of supply chain performance measures in finance operations and customer performance.
    • Experience with procurement supplier management contract negotiations and administration
