Fairtrade International (FLO) is an internationally recognized, non-profit organization that works to secure fairer trade terms so that farmers and workers in developing countries can invest in a better future for themselves and their communities. Our global team works to directly connect producers and consumers and promote fairer trading conditions and sustainability. We are responsible for the strategic direction of the Fairtrade system, the Fairtrade Standards and support to Fairtrade farmers and workers worldwide.

“Fundraising & Partnerships” encompasses our work with a variety of external parties, major strategic alliances and funding partners ethical finance providers, and local level operational partnerships.

OBJECTIVE/PURPOSE:

Under the supervision of the Director of Global Resources and in the framework of Fairtrade’s Partnership Strategy and Recommended Guidelines the Head of Fundraising and Partnerships is responsible for optimising the impact of fundraising and partnerships activities:

  • Developing and maintaining strategic relations and partnerships with a focus on current and potential funding partners;
  • Ensuring clarity and consistency of approach to strategic relations and partnerships;
  • Effectively managing the risks of partnership working.

PRINCIPAL ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Leading the development and implementation of a fundraising strategy for Fairtrade International, in close collaboration with colleagues across the Fairtrade system;
  • Supporting and enabling the development of external relationships necessary for Fairtrade to achieve its strategic objectives;
  • Ensuring that its strategic relations and partnerships are consistent with the values of Fairtrade and with Fairtrade’s Partnership Strategy;
  • Developing clear and consistent operational responsibilities, accountabilities and processes through which to manage strategic relations and partnerships;
  • Acting as a lead contact between Fairtrade International’s existing and potential partner organizations;
  • Leading on the co-ordination of partnerships across the Fairtrade movement, i.e. maintaining an overview of the range of external relationships across the Fairtrade movement, and facilitating linkages at strategic and operational levels to improve performance and enhance achievement of objectives;
  • Managing and guiding the fundraising, partnerships and producer finance team.

SKILLS REQUIRED:

Level of education:

Advanced University degree or equivalent professional qualification in a relevant discipline.

Knowledge/Job Specific Competencies:

  • At least 10 years of professional experience in fundraising and managing strategic relations and partnerships in a complex, multi-stakeholder environment;
  • Experience in a multi-location international organization;
  • In-depth knowledge of and experience with the international development environment and/or multilateral agencies working in areas relevant to Fairtrade;
  • Strong network in the trade/development sectors;
  • Experience working in a developing country;
  • Strong project management experience, particularly with donor driven projects and/or development agency partnerships;
  • Understanding of global trade issues;
  • Knowledge of Fairtrade and understanding Fairtrade’s mission and vision.

Professional Skill Requirements:

  • Presentation: excellent written and verbal presentation skills;
  • Networking: able to build relationships across a wide range of organizations and at all levels;
  • People management: able to coach and guide direct reports to deliver against their own remits and personal objectives;
  • Creativity: used to guiding colleagues to seek solutions to difficult problems with multiple stakeholder requirements.

Languages:

  • Proficiency in English essential;
  • Proficiency in Spanish, French, German and other relevant languages will be a strong advantage.

Knowledge in Producer Finance and Micro-credits is an advantage.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS:

  • This is a full-time job and is based in Bonn, Germany or UK;
  • The working language is English;
  • Start date: as soon as possible;
  • Salary is based on the Collective Bargaining Agreement (Gross- und Außenhandel NRW) Scale VIb, attractive benefits package available including pension and savings contributions, 30 days annual leave and flexible working hours;
