The International Potato Center (CIP) is a research centre that seeks to reduce poverty and achieve food security on a sustained basis in developing countries through scientific research and related activities on potato, sweet potato, and other root and tuber crops and on the improved management of natural resources in the Andes and other mountain areas. CIP operates a Regional Office for the Sub-Saharan Africa based in Nairobi, Kenya. CIP is seeking to recruit a Project Accounting Manager (PAM) and Driver for CIP -SSA supported potato project in Tanzania coordinated from ARI Uyole, Mbeya. The two are Nationally Recruited Staff (NRS) positions that will be managed by the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture office in Dar es Salaam.
Project Accounting Manager
Among other function, the PAM will assist in carrying out; liaison, protocol, purchasing and accounting services for CIP -SSA for the project.
Specific duties will include:
ACCOUNTS:
Perform daily accounting functions of general ledger management, accounts payable, accounts receivable, fixed assets, project accounting, inventory controls, monthly and fiscal financial closing.
Review trial balance on monthly basis reconciling the general ledger, bank accounts, employee advances.
Prepare various financial reports for project management review. Directly supervise staff in accordance with organizational policies and applicable laws, including hiring, training, performance management. Coordinate with the regional and home office accounting teams to ensure high quality financial support.
Promote proactive customer service and communication to maintain strong financial reporting.
Ensures compliance with local tax and reporting requirements, Performs monthly reviews of all projects to prevent project budget variances.
Oversee the sub-grants management functions including agreement preparation, financial reporting and monitoring, and sub-grantee audits when necessary.
ADMINISTRATION:
Make travel arrangements for staff Arranging conferences & meetings
Maintaining personnel files and staff insurance,
Arrange for work permits, duty exemptions, clearances for visitors and equipment
Handling motor vehicle insurance. maintenance, service and supervising the drivers.
Keep inventory of office equipment and supplies
Handle telephone calls/faxes, receive and assist office visitors Organize and maintain filing system
Provide other administrative support as required
Professional Requirements
A Degree In Business Administration -Accounting or other related formal academic qualifications preferred
At least 3 years relevant experience of which 2 years should be in a similar (Accounts/administrative) position, preferably In an International Organization or Foreign Mission.
Excellent communication and Interpersonal skills
Good knowledge of rules, regulations and procedures of government and related agencies
Ability to work independently and to take initiative when sorting issues with the government
Computer literate
Competent driver with current and valid driving license
Willingness to work on weekends and holidays if circumstances dictate
