JOB CONTEXT: Since 2006, the context in South Sudan has evolved towards post-emergency and development. One project, funded by ECHO, is currently implemented within the Victim Assistance (VA) framework, which is a strategy based on the international Mine Ban treaty and the Convention on Cluster Munitions (CCM), present in countries affected by mines like South Sudan. Activities of this VA project include distribution of assistive devices and consumables, sensitization of the community on disability and disability prevention, support to health local authorities and NGO partners on basic physical rehabilitation and trainings of local staff on basic rehabilitation management for People with Disabilities both in the local hospital and in the villages through outreach.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
As Rehabilitation Trainer you will support the Victim Assistance (VA) project by ensuring beneficiaries and their families in Jonglei State an improved access to disability prevention measures as well as basic and specific answers to needs.
Based in Bor and under the line management of the VA project Manager, you will be responsible for: - Training: o preparation & implementation) of basic rehabilitation & prevention sessions for health workers o providing on the job training & continuous mentoring of community rehabilitation workers o providing practical hands-on training on the prescription of mobility devices o conducting sessions on disability prevention for all project staff
Referral System: Improving the referral system between primary healthcare centers, hospital, and Handicap International community rehabilitation workers, and supporting the project manager in developing referral guidelines
Supporting the VA project manager: o assist her in the development of home-care leaflets o support monitoring of rehabilitation input through development/modification of patient assessment forms, writing case studies, and contributing in the improvement of client database system o contribute in improving data-collection system through modification of M&E forms o on Human Resource and Project Management by producing updated reports in regular intervals; drawing up plans of action and capitalizing for HI internal use and for outside publications when required.
CANDIDATE PROFILE: You have a University Degree in Physical Therapy You have at least 3 years hands-on experience in similar position, with good experience in prescription, repair and maintenance of mobility devices You are experienced in training national and expatriate staff in field conditions You have worked in community-based rehabilitation (CBR) area You have experience of living and working in a difficult (crisis) context with very basic amenities You are flexible, diplomat and have good capacity of adaptation
An experience in African context would be an asset
REQUIRED LANGUAGE SKILLS: Fluent in oral and written English
JOB ENVIRONMENT: The situation in Bor has been relatively stable this past year. However, other areas of Jonglei state have been the less secured. The base in Bor is accessible by plane through WFP-run services. A road connects Juba and Bor but should only be used for transportation of goods. The rainy season goes from May/June to September/October. During this period, movements are mostly limited to Bor since the roads are impracticable.
Although HI is making continual improvements, conditions remain very basic. The compound is located outside the main city, and accessible by car. The compound hosts the office, and separated by a fence, the living accommodations. The expatriates in Bor live in individual Tukuls. There is a common room cum dining fitted with basic furniture and cable TV (DSTV). There are very few INGOs (3-4) in Bor and therefore social activities and interactions are limited.
Due to the security context and length of the mission, the position is not open to couples and families
EMPLOYMENT CONDITIONS: Volunteer: 750 or 850 Euros monthly indemnity + living allowance paid on the field + accommodation + 100% of the medical cover taken in charge by HI + repatriation insurance + indemnity for partner and children Salary: 1800-2100€ gross salary/month + 457 Euros net expatriation allowance + 50% of the medical cover taken in charge by HI + repatriation insurance
