Who we are
Oxfam is a worldwide organisation that works with over 1,000 partners in more than 70 countries to overcome poverty and suffering. Oxfam GB has been working in South Sudan for more than 20 years and has played a pivotal role in delivering emergency response alongside longer-term development assistance. The Programme is currently implementing Public Health and Livelihoods in Upper Nile and Lakes States and has an Emergency Preparedness and response team that operates across the all the ten states.
In order to realize significant impact on food and livelihood security, the programme focuses on support to agricultural recovery and off-farm income sources especially among the vulnerable communities, the majority of whom depend on subsistence agriculture. To do this Oxfam GB works with local communities and is increasingly involved in building the capacity of partners, communities and local government institutions.
About the role
The Project Officer will be responsible and accountable for the technical implementation, supervision, monitoring and evaluation of livelihoods projects. You will support in building the capacity of Oxfam’s local partners; monitor and analyze the programmatic and contextual environment. You will organize and assist in relevant technical trainings; provide updates on food security situations on ground and co-ordinate agricultural and income generating activities together with partners and local authorities. The post holder with the Livelihoods Manager, Community Context Manager, and partners will ensure the programs are implemented with community involvement to promote ownership of the programme, gender and conflict sensitivity. In addition you will participate in the design and development of project proposals as well as preparing quality reports.
What we are looking for
You will bring a degree or diploma in Agriculture or Agricultural Extension, Horticulture or related field with proven practical experience in food security, livelihoods or agricultural projects implementation. You will have substantial experience of working with partner organizations and strengthening local capacity. Equally important are your interpersonal, communication and report writing skills. Excellent teamwork skills and ability to build good relations internally and externally are essential to this role. Both written and spoken English skills are essential while spoken Arabic and other Southern Sudan languages will be an added advantage.
