Oxfam in Malawi is looking for a results-oriented person to take up an Economic Justice Coordinator post to be based in Lilongwe, the Country Office.
Background
Oxfam’s Country Programme in Malawi set out a broad framework for a five year programme strategy. It is committed to work innovatively in recognition of high levels of poverty, vulnerability and gender inequality in order to contribute to improved quality of life and sustainable livelihoods for poor people, especially for women. The candidate is expected to provide and support programmes associated with advocacy and campaign work that specifically supports Oxfam’s Strategic Change Goal on “Economic Justice”. The person will be reporting to Programme and Advocacy Manager.
Skills and Competencies
• Master’s degree in development studies, agriculture, economics, or social sciences);
• 5+ years of senior leadership experience, preferably within a large development or humanitarian organisation;
• Excellent knowledge and experience of programme development; Project Cycle Management (PCM) principles; climate change adaptation framework and strategies; sustainable livelihood programmes and initiatives; gender and HIV and AIDS and their intersection with poverty and suffering;
• Experience of and thorough understanding of a “Rights Based Approach”, including conceptual clarity of power analysis;
• Commitment to and good knowledge of working with a partnership approach across the spectrum of Oxfam’s work, including innovative approaches to capacity strengthening;
• Good knowledge of and experience with donor funding environment and good financial management skills, with experience of project budgeting and controlling financial risks;
• Proven analytical and conceptual thinking, high level research, project management knowledge and skills and experience using participatory tools and methodologies for assessment, programme identification, implementation, monitoring and evaluation.
