Overview:
The International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) works with poor rural people to enable them to grow and sell more food, increase their incomes, and determine the direction of their own lives. Since 1978, IFAD has invested over US$12 billion in grants and low-interest loans to developing countries, empowering some 370 million people to break out of poverty. IFAD is an international financial institution and a specialized UN agency based in Rome – the UN’s food and agricultural hub. It is a unique partnership of 165 members from the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), other developing countries and the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD).
The Communications Division’s work covers the wide gamut of internal and external communications, including: event planning and coordination; media relations; writing and publications; graphic design and photography; radio, television and video production; web and electronic media; distribution; and information and knowledge management.
IFAD’s Broadcast Communications Unit is looking for candidates interested in being considered for its roster:
Video Editor, Broadcast Communications
Candidates selected for the roster will be considered for short-term assignments in the Broadcast Communications Unit, based at IFAD’s headquarters in Rome, Italy.
Main tasks and responsibilities:
Under the general supervision of the Head of Broadcast Communications, the Video Editor plays a key role in the success of IFAD’s communications initiatives featuring video and audio products. The Video Editor is responsible for the overall operation and maintenance of IFAD’s video and audio production facility and takes responsibility for ensuring that video and audio productions meet the specifications and quality standards of regional, national and international broadcasters.
The consultant will perform the following duties:
- Take responsibility for overall operation and maintenance of IFAD’s video and audio production infrastructure, which may include, but may not be limited to, camera equipment, non-linear editing systems, ancillary sound and video recording equipment, microphones, editing/graphics software and make recommendations for updating.
- Exercise independent judgement, make appropriate visual choices and take responsibility for the accuracy, source and aesthetic quality of video footage applied to IFAD productions.
- Edit, mix and generate masters of video products, including documentaries, news features, video news releases and compilation reels.
- Provide consultancy services and technical support to IFAD staff and external video producers, identifying and recommending appropriate video and audio materials and/or approaches to video production.
- Provide video content in all required formats and make recommendations to other units in the Communication Division, including web, media and regional communications officers.
- Participate in unit meetings and in the conceptualization and development of communications strategies that incorporate video and audio materials and recommend applications for television, video, Internet and multimedia.
- Keep abreast of and recommend quality standards, equipment and software needs and ensure that all IFAD productions meet broadcaster technical specifications.
- Establish, build and maintain supportive relationships and networks within and outside of IFAD to ensure the delivery of accurate and effective video products.
- Serve as IFAD’s in-house camera operator/sound recordist for video taping of specific events and interviews.
- Perform other duties as required
Education and Experience
- Degree in film studies, journalism, communications or a related area, or equivalent practical experience
- Minimum of six years of relevant experience in television production with solid knowledge of Final Cut Pro video editing and graphic software
- Experience in video camera operation and sound recording in a variety of environments an advantage
Communication
- Excellent written and verbal communication in English is essential
- Working knowledge of Italian desirable
