Team Leader, Behavior Change Communication (4560)

PATH is seeking a Team Leader on Behavior Change Communication (BCC) to work on the JHPIEGO-led USAID-funded Maternal and Child Integrated Program (MCHIP) in Rwanda. PATH is a partner on MCHIP which is the USAID flagship project on maternal, newborn and child health. This project will support the Government of Rwanda in improving maternal and child health and nutrition both at the national and at the district level. The Team Leader for BCC will lead the development of a sub-strategy for BCC covering all the technical areas of the project including those related to improving maternal, newborn and child health and nutrition.

The BCC Team Leader will be based in Kigali but will travel as needed to select districts supported by MCHIP and will provide technical leadership and assistance in the design, development, and dissemination of a BCC sub-strategy and implementation plan that will include monitoring and evaluation indicators and activities to measure uptake of messages and behavior change. The BCC Team Leader will serve as part of the Technical Team for MCHIP based in Kigali and will report to the Senior Technical Advisor and will work closely with and receive technical assistance from the MCHIP, Washington, D.C., BCC technical backstop for this activity.

Principal duties and responsibilities include:

  • Review existing BCC strategies in Rwanda;
  • Liaise with and work with Government (Ministry of Health), various stakeholders and create networks with other partners for all BCC activities supported by MCHIP;
  • Develop a national integrated BCC sub-strategy that cuts across various health themes including maternal, newborn, and child health and nutrition;
  • Develop an implementation plan for the sub-strategy and BCC tools;
  • Validate the sub-strategy and implementation plan with national stakeholders;
  • Support the development of prototypes for BCC tools, including reviews by national stakeholders;
  • Test, validate, reproduce and disseminate BCC tools;
  • Coordinate, monitor and report on BCC activities.

Required Skills
  • Demonstrated ability to think innovatively and work collaboratively;
  • Excellent communication skills (written and oral);
  • English fluency
  • Ability to travel up to 50% time

Required Experience
  • Masters degree in social sciences, communications, advertising or related fields;
  • 10+ years of experience in developing BCC strategies, designing BCC campaigns and activities, developing BCC materials,messages and campaigns;
  • 5+ years of experience in public health related themes: maternal, newborn, and child health and nutrition;
  • USAID experience is a plus.
