Project Officer - ARP

Come join a dynamic team if you are an organized, highly-motivated and results-oriented individual for the position of Project Officer in the Alternative Rights of Passage (ARP) Project under the Child and Reproductive Health Programme. The Project’s overall goal is to improve the reproductive health and rights of girls among the pastoralist community in Samburu County through increasing young girls’ access to Alternative Rites of Passage without going through FGM and ensure better utilization of reproductive health services and rights. The project will work closely with local civil society organizations (CSOs) and the community social structures towards achievement of this goal.

Purpose of the Job

To provide technical expertise and support project activities and the implementation of the project strategy.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

• Working in conjunction with the Government and other partners to plan and supervise the implementation of the project activities in Samburu County.
• Develop timely project implementation work plans.
• Facilitating the formation, networking and coordination of the project implementation team.
• Advocating for direct poverty alleviation through SRH services, comprehensive sexuality education, reduction of Sexual and Gender Based Violence (SGBV), increased acceptance of sexual diversity and gender identity.
• Building the capacity of health workers, CSOs and peer educators to implement project activities.
• Developing and/or adopting and disseminating relevant health learning materials for use in the implementation of project activities.
• Collecting data, analyzing and producing reports as required.
• Networking with relevant partners (GoK, NGOs, CBOs, FBOs and Youth Groups) to improve partnerships and influencing policy at County and community levels.
• Participating in monitoring and evaluation of the project activities. 
• Assisting in conducting operations research and sharing of the results.
• Creating and nurturing partnerships with other relevant actors in the project area.
• Participating in the management and control of the use of project resources.
• Participating in the development of new concepts and proposals for fundraising.

Qualifications and Competencies

The ideal candidate should possess at least a degree in Anthropology or related Social Science discipline and have a minimum of four (4) years’ hands-on experience in reproductive health issues such as Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) and Alternative Rites of Passage (ARP) in pastoralist communities. The person must have knowledge and experience in SRHR strategies/approaches among the nomadic communities, project implementation and in report writing. Understanding of the Samburu culture and the ability to communicate fluently in the Samburu language are mandatory for the position. The candidate must be ICT proficient and have strong analytical, problem-solving and networking skills. S/he should be a team player, have outstanding interpersonal skills and remarkable communication skills, both oral and written. Confidentiality, honesty, integrity and the ability to work with minimal supervision in a harsh environment are crucial
