Background
Uwezo is part of Twaweza, an East Africa wide initiative with an objective to enable millions of people in East Africa improve their quality of life by stimulating people’s imagination and agency, via improved access to information and enhanced accountability.
Overall Responsibility:
You will coordinate all research activities within Uwezo Tanzania. These activities will include putting into process all activities necessary to ensure that Uwezo assessments are carried out in timely manner. You should ensure that the research meets all the Uwezo standards of sampling on research, partner identification, and test development. Furthermore, you will be responsible for the writing and printing of the annual assessment reports and other publications from the data gathered. You will ensure that these publications maintain the Uwezo standards.
Specific Responsibilities
1. To organize the annual national assessment of learning outcomes among children in Tanzania in literacy and numeracy. To achieve this to do the following:
2. To identify and recruit regional and district coordinators
3. To identify and recruit volunteers who would do the assessment,
4. To assist the Uwezo Manager to design the research and obtain research clearance from relevant authorities,
5. Develop a data collection plan,
6. To assist the Uwezo Manager to develop assessment tools and data entry forms,
7. To organize and supervise training at various levels
8. To ensure successful implementation of data collection plan,
9. To ensure that all data collected are safely managed and stored,
10. To assist the Uwezo Manager to write various reports from the analysis of data.
11. To prepare annual and quarterly plans for research activities of Uwezo,
12. To prepare annual and quarterly reports on research activities of Uwezo.
13. To attend meetings, workshops, etc. as directed by the Uwezo Manager.
General Responsibilities
1. Undertake the activities above in line with the associated budgets and with work plans, in ways that are consistent with Uwezo policies;
2. Prepare and submit quality and timely plans, budgets and reports ;
3. Keep abreast of new ideas and materials in the area of organizational learning, M&E and communications ;
4. Participate in meetings and sessions and sessions as needed;
5. Undertake any other lawful tasks as may be assigned by your Supervisor.
Education, skills and experience
1. Experience in carrying out large surveys
2. At least a Master’s degree in education or in social sciences;
3. At least three years’ relevant working experience, specifically in research
4. Excellent writing and communication skills in both English and Kiswahili; an eye for detail
5. Strong analytical and organizational skills
6. Ability to be on top of issues and deliver quality on time
