USAWA (Umoja wa SACCOS za wakulima) is a network of rural Savings and Credit Cooperatives (SACCOS) operating in Northern Tanzania (Kilimanjaro and Arusha regions) with offices in Moshi and Usa River. The establishment of USAWA in 2006 was supported by FERT (French farmers organization), which has supported its development ever since. The objective of USAWA is to provide technical and financial assistance to the SACCOS based in rural areas to enable them to offer high quality financial services to their members. Today USAWA consists of more than 37 SACCOS corresponding to 18,000 members.
The USAWA Assistant Manager will work closely together with the Managing Director and with the Regional Staff Team. The Assistant Manager, if qualified, can look forward to a promotion into the Managing Director position after one year; an assessment will be part of the decision procedure.

USAWA is currently seeking an Assistant Manager (Full time).
Tasks and Responsibilities:
• Contributing to the implementation of USAWA’s activities as defined by the Board of Directors and described in USAWA’s annual budget and objectives
• Participation in the drafting and review of USAWA’s annual business plan and annual budget, including objectives and strategic planning
• Contributing to the implementation of financial and risk management principles
• Implementing USAWA support projects: organization, procedure set up and planning of activities
• Preparing USAWA’s quarterly and annual reports in cooperation with the Managing Director
• Contributing to the improvement of the quality of the services provided by the SACCOS to their members: assessment of SACCOS needs in cooperation with the Field Staff; ensuring that the SACCOS understand and respect SACCOS and USAWA’s procedures and review and establishment of training documents for training of SACCOS staff and leaders in cooperation with the Training Officer
• Contributing to the professionalization of the USAWA team: capacity building of current staff; recruitment of Staff; review of Staff benefits program
• Organisation and preparation of the bi-annual General Meeting in cooperation with the Manager and the Financial and Administrative Manager.

Requirements:
• East African citizen, in possession of a Masters degree (or equivalent) in the field of Finance, Economy or Management
• Minimum of 3 years working experience as a (Assistant) Manager in relevant field, including proven knowledge of and experience in Financial and Human Resources Management
• Affinity and experience with SACCOS and/or micro-finance sector
• Strong interest to work with SACCOS based in rural areas and managed by farmers
• Excellent and proven leadership and communication skills
• Strong capacity of monitoring and reporting
• Strong capacity of working autonomously and making proposals for improvement
• Ability to prioritize and to meet deadlines
• Fluency in English and Swahili, both oral and written
• Accurate, honest, reliable, hard working
• Positive collaborative attitude towards the USAWA team, the Board and the SACCOS.
